At some point it’s the managers job to rescue a guy who obviously doesn’t have it that particular evening. Yes he pitched incredibly poorly but Yost should have gone and got him before it got so out of hand.

On top of letting him take the abuse, Yost also threw Mazzaro under the bus after the game. He was asked by reporters if it was a tough situation for Mazzaro to be in since he was slated to be the next day’s starter and therefore showed up to the ballpark with zero expectation that he would be pitching that night. Yost’s reply was no, it shouldn’t have been a tough situation, because it was actually Mazzaro’s normal day to pitch due to the rainout the day before.

While true, it also completely ignores that normal preparation routine for a starter, and ignores Yost’s own words from the week before. After Mazzaro got beat up a bit in New York partly because he had a tough travel day the night before upon being called up, Yost said he didn’t want to judge Mazzaro until he’d had a couple of starts under “normal” circumstances. I guess that means Yost considers last night’s circumstances to be “normal”.

In short, I don’t think Ned Yost is going to be making Vin Mazzaro’s Christmas card list this year.

I have a lot of sympathy for this guy, but does it really count as “wearing one” when the reliever is the player most responsible for the blowout? When he came in, it was a three-run ballgame. Every one of those 14 runs was earned, and he only stuck around for 2.1 innings, leaving the rest to a handful of other relievers. It sounds more like the rest of the team was wearing Vin’s poor performance.

Saw his line score last night, did a double take… There is taking one for the team and then there is this. Then demoted the next A.M. Please keep all sharp objects away from Vinnie for awhile and Ned, enough is enough, at some point it borders on torture.

You Know, I thought the Royals were passed historicly epicly bad performances but I guess not.

I guess we’ll throw this on the pile of other comical plays in Royals history: Ken Harvey getting hit in the back with a throw from RF. A pop fly dropping between two outfielders to help continue a 19 game losing streak, and my favorite, because I saw it in person…batting out of order in the 1st inning.

However, there is some good news. With Kyle Davies on the DL with a case of Suckass, and Vin Mazzaro back in Omaha with the same condition. Surely, Surely they have to call up Danny Duffy or Mike Montgomery now, right?

This is the 4th time since the turn of the century that the Indians have won by at least 18 runs (most in MLB), so I’ve seen this before.

What made last night unique is it was the first of those four butt-kickings that didn’t come against the Yankees!
