Nunez as a leadoff guy wouldnt be a bad idea only problem is when it comes to nunez’s defense he isnt tht good. he makes great plays sometimes but he also makes a lot of errors. also wat position would u play him? you can not take jeter out of the shortstop position cuz he is great defensively and idk bout puttin him in the outfield either.

I have the solution- how about the Yankees stop leaving a ton of men on the basepads every game? Most of those blown saves shouldn’t have even been save situations if they just get one or two timely hits. I’m still trying to figure out why Kevin Long gets so much credit for a lineup of allstars and potential Hall of Famers that gets shut down as often as they do.

Yankee fans, why can’t we just be thankful and appreciate the fact that the Yankees won. Period. Girardi catches a lot of blame on this this and other boards for some of his decisions and rightfully so in many cases. But last nights decision to go with Mo in the 9th should be one of them.
One other comment. We fans (including myself) have jumped all over the performances of Jeter and Posada. In my opinion justified. But Swisher is killing the Yankees offense as well and he seems to get a by on criticism in most cases. As for last nights game yes Mo blew the save but the game never should have gone to 15 innings. The Yankees had many opportunities to scores before then and the offense couldn’t/didn’t get it done. A game like last night is a great example of when the team misses Chavez and his offense this year. To have Nunez at SS, Jeter DH, Jones in the OF and Cervelli the starting catcher on a team with a $200MM payroll is embarrassing. That’s just my opinion.

My friend, Girardi is in a no win situation here. If he leave Colon in and he blows up Girardi takes the blame from fans because Mo is well rested and in the bullpen ready. If like last night he brings Mo in and Mo blows it (which he did) Girardi takes the blame from fans because he took Colon out when Colon was have a very good game.
Like I said this was a case of damed if you do and damed if you don’t. We fans can blame Girardi for many things during the season but I don’t think his decision last night should be one of them. That’s just my opinion.

no.. you cant.. BUT you can make the argument that if it was a 2-0 game then yea sure.. bring out Colon cause worst case you bring in Mo. but when its a 1-0 game AND you just lost like 9 out of your last ten then yea.. you bring in Mo even if Colon had only 80 pitches on the night. teh Yanks are desperate for wins now. the Sox are ahead of us in the standings ( and thats without Crawford or Youk really hitting well) and its all downhill from here. Jeter HAS to be dropped to 7th or 8th and Nunez lead off with Grandy hitting second. As long as Jeets is at the top of the lineup hes going to kill us. If we stick to the current plan then we are a 4th place team by end of season for sure.. We need a spark and that may be Noesi or maybe bring up Montero but SOMETHING has to change or the yanks are shit out of luck.

You’re right in the sense that Girardi would have been criticized no matter what decision he made if the Orioles tied the game, but I don’t know that this was definitively the “right call.” A guy gives up 3 hits in 8 innings all the while throwing 87 some odd pitches, not a bad idea to stick with works IMO.

OK guys, I love Mo too. Part of my point is that we never have a complkete game shutout like it’s some kind of sacrilige to not use a closer. I am second-guessing, that’s inherent while the game is going on, I think Colon showed enough poise, was ready to go out again, and THEN if a man got on, Mo could come in.

Its just stupid of girardi to bring Mo in the game. I understand that Mo is one of the best closers in the game and was warmed up, but when ur starting pitcher went 8 innings with only 3 hits and 1 walk with like bout 87 pitches it completely makes sense to keep him in. Girardi has to change his way of thinking bout the “have to go to Mo” mentality like yankeesfanlen said.

It is not inconceivable that Colon could have come out for the 9th after only 87 pitches. However, Girardi gets his good relievers up nearly every game, even if they don’t make it into a game, so if Mo is warmed up anyway, you might as well use him.
