I only wish A-Rod was the Yankees problem. In his MVP years people were b****ing that A-Rod was the problem. In his merely fantastic seasons (none of them have been ‘bad’ seasons) people whined that he was the problem. I think Yankee fans and haters will be surprised how tough it will be to replace his production when he is gone.

Has there ever been another player this good who received this little appreciation even from his own team’s fans?

What about him? His WAR is lower (even if it’s just by .1) and his wOBA is lower by 27 points. I’m not sure what your point is here. A-Rod is having a better season.

A-Roid… see Albert Belle and Bo Jackson. Degenerating hip injuries inevitably lead to a big drop off in production. Belle and Jackson had such hip injuries and both were forced into premature retirement. The difference in A-Roid’s case is that the Yankees desperately want to see him play long enough to break Barroids all time home run mark (notice that I didn’t acknowledge it as being a legitimate record), and the money’s too good for A-Roid to voluntarily retire before his contract is up.

Doubtful. He has 621 HR, needing 141 more to tie Bonds. He will turn 36 in a couple of months. He’s hit 35, 30, and 30 the last 3 years and is on a similar pace this year. Meaning he’ll need another 120 HR after this year to break the record. He is having a number of health problems now, you think he’ll keep hitting 30 HR/year until he’s 40? Or 25 HR/year until he’s 41? Missing no time to injury?

The Yankees were CRAZY to give A-Roid as long of a big contract extension as they did and will find themselves in the same predicament that the Cubs are currently in with Soriano sooner than later (i.e., an aging, declining player who slides into mediocrity but still is paid like a superstar).

From day one, of AB one of spring, through the first month of the season, Alex looked about as good at the plate as he ever had in his career. Then that guy disappeared for a while. But it looked like maybe he came back before that first HR the other night, just his presence at the plate seemed better, let alone the results since. If that guy is back, let’s hope he sticks around for a while now.*

*Or maybe Teix could y’know get more than one hit a night (on a good night). I mean, I’ll take some combo of the both.

I won’t be happy about it….but of course they pissed away a bunch of money on this guy. In general, players have never aged very well, and without assistance to help them stay strong and healthy through a long season (the primary benefit of the PEDs that do have effects on baseball performance)….players are going to age just like they used to….and it was never pretty.

During the Sox-Yankees game on the 15th the broadcast team was showing the difference in ARods leg kick pre and post op. His left knee now goes nearly straight up where before it used to head inwards, more in line with his right ear. I wonder if that’s what he’s having trouble correcting with his batting stance?

He sure looked awkward on his feet over @ 3rd during that game. At one point he let a routine grounder slip right through his legs as he was trying to field it. Just lost his balance as he tried to plant his feet. He sure seemed surprised when he didn’t come up with the ball; looked like a guy who wasn’t aware there was one more step to go an the staircase he was descending.

Poor performance? He’s got a 132 OPS+. Do they not realize that offense in general is down? Comparatively, the last time he posted anything close to this (131 OPS+) he had an 888 OPS. Probably on pace for a 5-6 win season this year if he doesn’t lose time for injuries.

He’s 35 what do they expect him to do? I’m just having trouble wrapping my head around this being a bad year for Rodriguez. They do know he’s been the best 3B in the league this year, right?

He was doing fine until the oblique strain in April. I think he came back too soon** and is finally recovered.
