The Reds send Edinson Volquez down to AAA

May 23, 2011, 4:30 PM EDT

Aaron wrote this morning how Edinson Volquez‘s arm and his mouth are doing the Reds no favors.  Well, the Reds just did something to take care of that:  they sent Volquez down to Louisville.

Not exactly the fate one would expect for the Opening Day starter of the defending NL Central champs, but he is the weakest link, so … goodbye.

(note: I’ve been saving that last line since 2002. Too stale?  Wait, don’t tell me).

The irony does not escape me, that on the same day Josh Hamilton is activated from the DL, Volquez is sent packing to Louisville.

This won’t solve any of his problems. Louisville is scoring exactly as many runs per game as the Reds.

I’d wish I was in AAA for this four game series against the Phillies at CBP. This is going to be ugly.

If the Reds are going to be in the race in the second half they’ll need to trade for some pitching if they want to contend.

Some over performance from some hitters will be nice too a la last year.
