Given the fact that the Rockies are a contender, one would certainly think that they'll now be aggressively shopping for a replacement veteran starter. The White Sox have six starters in their current rotation and have basically said that they will drop back to five on or before June 1st (when their current 20 consecutive games scheduled run ends).

I'm sure that the White Sox will make Edwin Jackson the likely odd man out and available via trade. The biggest obstacle though in trading him is his $8.5M salary, but he's a free agent at the end of the season so it wouldn't be as if the Sox would be asking the Rockies to pick up a huge long term contract commitment (as will be the case with other veteran starters who figure to be made available).

I would think that if the Sox were willing to pick up at least some of Jackson's contract and the Rockies were willing to part with a couple of second tier prospects a deal could be quickly struck.

That's terrible. I really liked the growing friendly rivalry between the clubs and he was a tough pitcher for us. They made the last few seasons memorable because the division was competitive, which made the games exciting. Hopefully they can add the right players to keep the division race exciting. In the meantime, I wish him well and a speedy recovery. Look what Wilson did after TJsurgery...he can come back strong.

Wow. I was watching that game and his exit looked innocuous enough. Maybe it was a blister thing, maybe he just wasn't feeling well, you really didn't have a clue.

And now he's likely out until June 2012? That's about as unexpected as an injury gets.
