Fans, players, had to take cover in Texas last night

As I mentioned in the recaps, tornado warnings, rain and hail in Dallas caused an extended delay of the White Sox-Rangers game last night, with fans being evacuated from the upper decks and then into tunnels in the ballpark for shelter.

A story about the evacuation can be read here.  Over at Buzzfeed this morning is a collection of fan photos of the whole thing, including scary skies, billowing tarp and fans crammed in hallways for shelter.

In a spring in which Mother Nature has taken more than her usual toll, it’s a good and lucky thing indeed that everyone at the ballgame stayed safe last night.

I would like to have been there to watch the Martians ride down the lightning.

When I lived in San Antonio I had to go to Dallas a lot for business. Some of the storms there were amazing, especially when taking the hop on Southwest. It’s so flat that you could see the entire storm as it passed over the metroplex, with lightning and what all falling. The 737 would just lazily circle around the storm until Love Field would clear, then land. Sometimes an extra 20 minutes, sometimes an hour. It wasn’t so much fun being on the ground during one of those big storms though. Wind, rain and hail looks a lot better from a distance than it feels when it’s that extreme.

I saw alittle bit of the game. The vision of the Tex CF take 2 steps back and then has to run his butt off to catch it in shallow CF will remain in my mind forever. But scary situation also….
