Grady Sizemore tested his injured right knee by running the bases yesterday and Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports that he could be activated from the disabled list as soon as tomorrow.

“He went out there and ran the bases and felt good,” manager Manny Acta told Bastian. “We’re going to make a decision. I’m expecting him to be ready to join us this weekend.”

Bastian reports that rookie outfielder Ezequiel Carrera was spotted shaking hands with teammates in the clubhouse following yesterday’s game, which is a sign that he’ll be the one sent down to make room for Sizemore’s return. Cleveland has today off.

Sizemore’s production this season was so much higher than I’d expected. I know they aren’t going to win the 105 games they’re on-pace for, but 87 or 88 might be enough to win the Central and that seems doable. It would be great if Grady could come back (again) and keep on hitting like the classic 2005-2008 model.

The Tribe need his bat, badly. I would like to see Brantley retain the leadoff spot while moving Grady down to #3, And Choo to #5 for the time being. Choo at #5 would serve to protect Santana a bit (who has a patient eye) and could eliminate pitchers working around him so much… Either way, I trust whatever decision Acta makes regarding the lineup.
