While I generally agree that Martinez isn’t very good and considering he is 28/29, there is not much of an upside. The problem with sending him down is, there would only be one back up infielder on the roster. It helps to have a guy who can play multiple positions, especially since Gload can only pinch hit (then proceed to get pinch ran for). Also, given the average age of the infield is around 45, an extra glove helps, particularly with Utley and his wonky knee.

They need to get the eff rid of Michael Martinez. He’s only good for his legs. His glovework is TERRIBLE, he can’t judge a ball hit towards him to save his life, and he’s a sub par hitter. Who cares if the Nationals take him back. That’d WORSEN their team.
