Willy Aybar: Mediocre baseball player, world-class scumbag

Jun 3, 2011, 10:15 AM EDT

Rays' Aybar drives in the game-winning run against the Angels during their MLB American League baseball game in St. Petersburg

Willy Aybar‘s lack of free agent offers was explained a few weeks ago by a report that he spent three months in a Dominican Republic prison for allegedly beating his wife so badly that she was in intensive care.

And now according to the St. Petersburg Times the former Rays, Dodgers, and Braves player–and brother of Angels shortstop Erick Aybar–was arrested again Sunday in Seattle and charged with assaulting his wife at a hotel.

Here are some details from the report:

Aybar was found “extremely intoxicated” at the front entrance. Police went to Aybar’s room, where his wife was crying and holding a bloody towel to her face and had a cut lip and an abrasion on her forehead and cheek, police documents said.

Innocent until proven guilty and all that stuff, but … man, what a world-class, inner-circle scumbag.

Is it possible that their are no lower life forms than guys like Aybar? Pissing away your talent in a bottle is one thing; its only really yourself you’re hurting, but beating up your wife? Lock his ass away for the rest of his natural. I do not EVER want to hear about this douche again.

i Absolutely agree. This guy and his behavior is just about as piss-poor as it gets. Scumbag is the right word

The only other time I’ll accept hearing about this asshole again is when they’ve given him a guilty sentence and a follow up that he gets the max sentence.

        Brian Sabean said it best:

“If I never hear from (Willy Aybar) again or he never plays another game in the big leagues, I think we’ll all be happy.”

Agreed. He is a POS of the highest degree.

I’ve always hated his brother. He looks like a real smug S.O.B.

Welcome to the 2011 douchenozzle list Mr. Aybar. Congratulations.

Seriously though, he must have knocked her senseless at an earlier point in their relationship. AS SHE HASN’T DUMPED HIS WORTHLESS ASS BY NOW AND TAKEN MOST OF HIS MONEY YET. Someone needs to talk to this woman right away. Someone with a Law degree who specializes in removing men from their money in divorce court. Sick.

Common denominators in these kinds of situations are fear and control and isolation. From her perspective, it is too dangerous to leave (and she’s right, since her risk of being killed is greatest when and immediately after she tries to break free of his control), that she might be able to minimize harm to her by appeasing him, and maybe, from her perspective this is “normal” or “what she deserves” , so she is embarrassed when it gets attention. She is probably unaware of resources available to help her, with that layered underneath a pile of cultural/language barriers depending on where she is when the latest abuse occurs. Hopefully, she is starting to get some help, between the last beating and this one — her odds of getting help go up if they stay in one place, but my guess is that they will leave Seattle as soon as he is out of jail (if she is even still there now).

But I also fully endorse the “divorce his ass and take all his money option.” Because that will hurt him more than a few months in jail. Apparently that is a walk in the park to him.

I want to say I’m not defending him in any way; that assaulting anyone is wrong and beating your wife is truly one of the lowest things any “man” can do. That being said, Willy’s alcoholism is well documented; it’s what got him a ticket out of the Braves organization. He has a severe problem and while I’m not someone who believes alcoholism is an actual disease, Willy certainly needs help to dry out and get his life together. Not only is does he deserve it but prison is the best thing for him at this point.

I would add about the incident in the DR. Since he spent time in jail for it you dont have to use the word allegedly. He’s guilty of that, no alleged. Now the incident in Seattle you can use that word, but sounds like this guy is the definition of the word thug or man who has small penis and cant do anything about it except beat up women.

I take care of my car just like I take care of the very few women that have managed to tolerate me for more than 5 minutes…As beautiful, precious delicate flowers. However in this guys case it’s OK if my car’s front end is damaged and the wind shield shattered after she accelerates toward this POS….
