Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I get really tired of the sanctimonious people on message boards who feel the need to pillory athletes for every mistake they make. I’m not trying to belittle the magnitude of a DUI, but jesus, look in a mirror next time you feel the need to crucify someone for mistakes that aren’t all that uncommon in our society.

Actually Choo didn’t blow off his 2 year mandatory military commitment, but the Korean government did a nice job of providing a loophole for him to climb conveniently through.

I read this in SI; apparently the Korean government can excuse the 2 year military commitment IF any athlete participates in a championship representing their country. Choo played in some sort of Asian tournament in between seasons that the Korean baseball team won.

I know Koreans really well. Lived there 7 years and married one, going on 28 years now. When inexperienced Korean english speakers translate Korean to english in their heads, the result often comes out as I tried too much, when they mean I tried hard. His english may have been misunderstood.

What I hear is that Choo is embarrassed over his DUI because he reportedly told the arresting officer that he hadn’t had anything to drink other that the juice from his kimchee pot. You see, Choo apparently didn’t realize that cabbage, just like juice from potatoes, can ferment to 100 proof!

Through May 1, he was hitting .250/.322/.394, well off his career marks. So no, the numbers do not add up. Unless he was really worried about the DUI he was going to get.
