Jimmy Rollins diagnosed with deep bone bruise, may be headed for DL

Jun 7, 2011, 5:43 PM EDT

Jimmy Rollins

As recently as yesterday Jimmy Rollins indicated that his injured right knee was feeling better, but an MRI exam revealed a deep bone bruise and Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Phillies shortstop may be bound for the disabled list if things don’t improve within the next 48 hours.

According to Gelb “the MRI showed bruising on both his patella and another bone near his right kneecap.” Or as general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. put it: “He got himself pretty good.”

Wilson Valdez, who filled in for an injured Rollins for much of last season and then subbed for an injured Chase Utley this year, will again be the primary replacement at shortstop.

Yeah, I knew this was coming. Oh well, we’ve been handling injuries all year. What’s another one?

Besides, Valdez’s glove is off the charts….

    • drmonkeyarmy - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:05 PM

Agreed. I will be curious to see who they call up. I would assume Pete Orr but you can never tell with Amaro.

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:10 PM

You are correct. I think calling up Pete Orr is the right choice.

By the way, I brought up to El Bravo his comments and his need to apologize to you in another thread. That’s all I can do, my brother.

      • drmonkeyarmy - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:30 PM

Thanks. He was out of line. Anyway, Rollins doesn’t seem to think he needs the DL. “If I go on the DL, it’s purely because they made a bad decision,” Rollins said. “You can write that.”

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:40 PM

Rollins really said that? Wow. Does that mean that he’s really not hurt? I don’t know what to make of that.

      • drmonkeyarmy - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:43 PM

Yeah, it is actually in Gelb’s piece that this blog is citing. It can be found on .

    • Utley's Hair - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:09 PM

Chuck needs to get Ryno a couple days off to get his foot right.

      • cur68 - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:13 PM

Hey UH; choo think about Reyes as a Phillthy? Like it or not? I can’t get ‘bicepts to agree he’s a + move for your boys.

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:13 PM

Ryno? I assume you mean Ryan Howard? But the only Ryno I know of is Ryne Sandberg.

Yeah, I’ve been a major believer that Howard needs more time off to be more effective, though.

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:15 PM

I will say it again. Reyes is a proven loser, a Mutt, and I don’t want him.

Whoever pays for that contract is an idiot.

      • cur68 - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:19 PM

Look you American, I’m not talkin to you. I’m talkin about you. I know your opinion already but you are not all of Philthy Nation, so, unless you can prove to me you’ve been elected spokes Philth, I as yet await the answer of the slightly less (but only slightly less) easily overheated of the Philthy Nation.

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:30 PM

Philthy Nation? Are you kidding me? The bottom line with my comments to you over the past couple of days is to stay out of American affairs. OK? You have no clue in regards to what your talking about with the birthrate crap, etc. You were offended with my belief that there are plenty of American youth to play the game of baseball here and decided to bring up a non-factual birthrate argument to goad me on and I called you out on it.

I’m starting to think that I am not the troll, but you are trolling me. I’m not sure yet. But, I will figure this out soon.

Once again, Philthy Nation? I’ve watched more Phillies game in 1/2 a season than you’ve seen in a lifetime.

      • Utley's Hair - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:34 PM

Seisenta y ocho, Reyes needs to go to the AL and somehow become a speedy DH. His defense is a bit lacking. JRoll’s glove is much better.

      • Utley's Hair - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:43 PM

That said, I would rather the ninja spend the money elsewhere, but I would welcome Reyes here—until he started costing runs with his glove.

      • drmonkeyarmy - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:44 PM

While we are on the subject of defense; does anybody else think that Rollins has lost a step or two ranging to his right?

      • cur68 - Jun 7, 2011 at 7:37 PM

Rolly’s slower, no doubt about it. I always enjoyed watching him play but he definitely hesitates a bit going right and frankly forward, too IMO. Could be an injury to that side or just slowing reflexes. Not Jeter slow, but not quick like he used to be. Time to platoon or get over to the outfield or some such. Too bad for him. He’s pretty likable.

  2. halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 6:44 PM

Close to game time, boys. Gotta go see Mr. Oswalt do his business. Later….

  3. raysfan1 - Jun 7, 2011 at 7:15 PM

Halladaysbicepts–wanting to clear the air a bit, we seem to have miscommunicated last not on the Dykstra thread. Just posting this here assuming you’ll see it and presuming you’d be unlikely to go back to an old thread otherwise. Link:

Since Cur68 posted on this thread too–he’s right about declining birthrates in this country (my source = US Census Bureau). You are right about overall population growth and about there being plenty of American youth to supply baseball’s needs.

    • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 7:33 PM

I just read your post as I am watching the Phillies game and I appreciate your point of view. I, like you, was a member of the military. Particulary, the Air Force. I simply stated that I don’t agree with the view that American sports, especially baseball, needs a huge influx of foreign-born players to support the game. The U.S population is more than ample to supply this need and TALENT.

If you look at the thread that you posted a link to, I was initially responding in agreement with another poster. But, cur68 decided to add his two cents into it, with a perspective of a foreigner.

MLB is America’s game, not the world’s game (notice I didn’t say baseball, just MLB). There are plenty of baseball players throughout the world. They have their own leagues. But, I want to see an increase of American players in the game, not foreigners. There is a disconnect between the MLB fans and their ever increasing foreign ranks.

Were fine, raysfan1. All is good.

P.S. I was stationed at MacDill AFB.

      • cur68 - Jun 7, 2011 at 7:52 PM

You know ‘bicepts, I’m not sure what I said to get you this riled. Was it the bit where I questioned your countries commitment to making babies or was the bit where I asked if you were doing your part or what? As for this whole “get out of American business” stuff you are bringing; In case you didn’t notice this blog is posted on by people from around the world. As such its an open forum and I didn’t say anything that isn’t in fact true and easily verifiable if you’d take the time to get that enormous pole out of your huge ass and actually check. In fact the Canadian birth rate is even lower than the American’s, as is that of most developed nations so you can get over it already. It’s actually a common feature of a wealthy and prosperous nation. Comment on that as you like. I’m not the least offended. It’s true and no aspersion on me or any country. I was never offended by any of your answers but you know what? I am offended that you’ve decided to get all “I’m an American. Don’t talk about me or my country or my ballteam”. Get over your self. You are not even remotely representative of Americans on this blog, much less Philly fans, nor even of the people posting here. I had been rather happy you’d decided to go “no insult” and was prepared to back you on it against others but I think we can forget about that since you are being such a massive dick (here and in other posts). I have every intention to keep commenting on ‘your’ team. If you don’t like it feel free to kiss my hairy black ass and not comment back.

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 8:07 PM

I’m now convinced you are a di*k after reading your response. I gave you a few chances in the past to be a follow poster compatriot. No more. Let’s see how good your knowledge truely is in baseball when you stop hanging on the coats of others. Your baseball knowledge is suspect compared to mine. I refuse to talk to you anymore. Go talk to your normal BS artists on this blog that don’t talk about baseball anyway. Make your own opinion and stop replying to people, and maybe you will get respect. Grow a pair of balls for yourself.

And guess what, you can kiss my American ass, Canadian asshole! And that goes for the rest of you A-holes that want to piss me offf!!!! Start insulting me, and I will give it to you back. I’m trying to be amicable. But, you want to continue to goad me on….

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 8:32 PM

Another thing, Cur68, you are on a website, owned by NBC, which is an American company. So, you are a “guest”, Canadian foreigner. Show some respect.

And, by the way, my view is probably what most Americans view Canada as. Most Americans view Canada as a drain on our military defense budget. If you guys could field a decent military, maybe we wouldn’t be so hostile, A-hole. But, we have to watch your sorry skies as well…

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 9:43 PM

What’s the matter, cur68? Withhold word of response in regards to your usual d*ck defenders? They want to know, your loyal minions (lol!!!, if you have them).

      • dprat - Jun 8, 2011 at 4:01 AM

“You are not even remotely representative of Americans on this blog…”

Thanks for recognizing that, cur68. Yes, I’m here to apologize for America. (And to note that if there were fewer like ‘bicepts, America would have a lot less apologizing to do.)

Frankly, folks like ‘bicepts make me ashamed to be their compatriot. He’s exactly the type of American that makes so many in the world hate America: far, far less intelligent, or humorous, than he thinks, a bit too in love with his own voice, has a hard time with logic, but utterly convinced of his own rightness, that his opinion is as valid as anyone’s regardless of whether there’s a shred of evidence to back it up, and too lazy to do a bit of research before announcing that opinion.

You, cur68, on the other hand, have gone way out of your way to make nice with ‘bicepts and other vile posters on this site, to try to gently nudge them toward a more civil tone. I’m sure many readers and posters have noticed that. And your reward? More ignorant xenophobic ranting that demonstrates all too clearly how pathetically the American education system has failed many of its citizens. You see, I work in that education system, so I take this personally, at least a little bit.

So my apologies for ‘bicepts, and my appreciation for your recognizing that he isn’t exactly representative of a whole nation.

  4. Jonny 5 - Jun 7, 2011 at 10:52 PM

I thought you guys were joking about that “foreigner” stuff. You must be kidding me….

    • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:15 PM

No, no joke. Cur68 started this crap about the birthrate in the U.S., etc..

      • Utley's Hair - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:23 PM

Dude, you’re really getting this frenzied over a comment about the US birth rate?

    • Utley's Hair - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:15 PM

      Nope…apparently not.

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:27 PM

        Go consult your “Canadian buddy” cur68. I don’t give a sh*t. I talk Phillies.

      • Utley's Hair - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:37 PM

Whatever, man. You’re acting like an a$$ looking to fabricate a reason to go off about nothing in particular.

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:41 PM

        Utley’s hair,

Contibute to some constructive baseball talk and maybe I will see your way…eitherwise, shut up. Take cur68 and go off some where…either way, I don’t care!

      • Utley's Hair - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:48 PM

Wow…you really have blinders on there. Just because people disagree with you doesn’t mean that their opinions don’t count.

Again I say, you are getting all frenzied over a comment on the US birth rate, supported by data.

      • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:49 PM

        Utley’s Hair,

I’ll put it as simple as I can get. I’m not going to have this Canadian guy tell me about baseball, especially Philadelphia baseball. This won’t fly, EVER! Dude, that doesn’t happen in Philly.

      • Utley's Hair - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:58 PM

What is he trying to tell you about Philly baseball? All he’s doing is talking about baseball. One of his teams is the Phillies—whether they were prior to Doc heading here, I don’t know. What’s so wrong about someone else talking about the Phils? Sometimes he talks smack about 93, but who around here doesn’t talk smack about other teams?

  5. cup0pizza - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:40 PM

    He’s a wimp.

    • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:43 PM

Go eat a bag of you know what, a-hole. What do you contribute to baseball conversation, BUDDY?

  6. cup0pizza - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:42 PM

Great game for Oswalt tonight. =)

    • halladaysbicepts - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:44 PM

Yeah, he was stellar. Anything else?

    • Utley's Hair - Jun 7, 2011 at 11:50 PM

And how about Lee last night?
