The draft is happening

Jun 7, 2011, 9:12 AM EDT

Gerrit Cole - UCLA AP

In case you missed our coverage, be it known that the first round of the amateur draft went down last night.

Matthew Pouliot’s wrapup can be read here.  As-it-went-down reactions can be read here:

Pick number one;
Picks 2-5;
Picks 6-10;
Picks 11-15;
Picks 16-20;
Picks 21-25; and
Picks 26-33

Personally, I’m no draft expert. Not by a longshot. But I promise, I’ll let you know how all of these picks went down in about 5-7 years.

    Close the window, for Buddha’s sake.

    Here’s all you need to know about the draft. It is an allegedly educated dart game. Case in point. The Indians today announced that 3B Wes Hodges was released from AAA Columbus to make room for Nick Johnson. Nick Freakin Johnson…..All jokes aside, Hodges was a 2nd round pick in 2006 out of Georgia Tech, won all sorts of accolades in high A ball in 2007 and as recently as 2008 was considered a lock to be an impact big league player at the hot corner for the Tribe for years. Yet, by last year, Cleveland had given up on him, DFA’ing him in July of 2010, only to grab him back off waivers from Colorado this winter…
    So, from can’t miss big league prospect, to DFA’d released in just over 2 years…. all you need to know about the draft.
