The telling phrase in that there opening statement Len is the one that includes the term “masturbatory”. Most writers have a writing ‘voice’; you can tell one author from another just by looking for certain styles and often used phrases. You can also tell a lot about the writer depending on their choice and usage of certain words. Freud, though off the mark in some respects, was pretty accurate about things like projection and associative words. He’d have much to say about the nature and predilections of our boy there.

FWIW, folks: I like it when fans of specific teams give their own, specialized recaps in the comments. I’m obviously viewing things from 50,000 feet so that someone can get a snapshot of a whole day’s action. As such, the detail that APBA Guy brings to the A’s, or Len to the Yankees, or Gator to the Feesh or any of a 1000 of you deranged Philly fans bring to the Phils is always welcome and ads to the conversation.

Lately? This is a national blog open to all teams, you must observe by now. What is not pertinent about a fan in, say, Cleveland giving you his or her view about the Indians?
This blog, along with it’s historical predecessors, was built around various voices expressing their (promoting their) concerns and viewpoints. Craig does an admirable job provoking us into such things, I’m sure you or I aren’t going to beat the bushes 12 hours a day delving through the media looking for baseball stories that might intrigue us and share them with others.

And for good measure, Grumpy is a has-been, THE FAT TOAD pitches toward the refreshment stand on the third baseline, Jeter sucks, ARod is god, and Swish is the world’s Most Interesting Man, Grandy is doing as well as Joe DiMaggio.

The Yankees lost. The way I figure it 4 of the 6 division leaders lost yesterday say they were in good company. Hopefully a different result tonight.

BTW, right about now the Cardinals look like the best team in baseball. That’s just my opinion.

I wasn’t going to comment today, but I just had to reading what you wrote. I laughed my ass off. You are dead on. I always thought giving game recaps took too much time. I think the scope of the comments should just be limited to talking about particular players, plays, or just trashing other teams.

I fear you would get all paranoid and stuff, so I’m not sharing, I don’t want to be responsible for Phior Phuror or Phillie Phreeze-up so you are on your own. Who knows if we can sustain this level of play throughout the year, but there is magic goin’ on, the team chemistry is palpable, much of it brought on by Berkman. I have never seen Albert so gleeful as in the past few days, and with the youthful infusion our future is so bright we need sunglasses while playing indoors in Houston. So doubt all you want, dourful Phillie Phan, Albert is here to stay, and maybe, just maybe so are the 2011 Cards.

Minor league whingers, the lot of you! The beloved A’s dropped their 8th in a row to, god forbid, career 5.34 ERA Chris Jakubauskas, whom they saw previously in Seattle, so he shouldn’t have fooled them. But for this night, J was spotting the corners low and getting the occasional Glavine-call from Mike Everitt. The O’s advanced scouts watched the Yankees and Sawx outfield play the A’s about 6 steps in from real MLB hitters to great effect: nary a flare drops in now, and the mighty A’s can’t muster enough strength to put a ball over the heads of the permanently drawn in defense. It’s like a team OF shift, but forward. Impressively clear and effective statement about the A’s, especially when compared to Baltimore’s 3 HR barrage.

Jemile Weeks is really small, and not just in that 0-4 way that makes you wonder what the A’s front office was thinking in the 2008 draft. He is very fast, and with Ellis out we’ll get a good look at him. At 24, he isn’t really a top prospect anymore, but is still considered a prospect. His line at Sacramento was very good, hitting well over .300. So we’ll see. But replacing Ellis defensively will be tough. Nothing got through the A’s right side of the infield, and Ellis’ placements helped Pennington immensely.

But all of this is trivial compared to the news that Mr. Anderson is heading to Alabama to consult with Dr. Andrews. The results of that may send the sale of anti-depressants skyrocketing in the East Bay.

Spud, I am not even the slightest bit afraid of the Redbirds. If you think Berkman is going to be playing this well into the post-season, then I want some of what you are smoking. King Albert is what he is…the best player in baseball. Enjoy it while you can, because he will be elsewhere next year. I don’t mind as much when they are just getting mowed down by some pitcher who is throwing well. Or even when they take crappy swings at 0-2 pitches. But when it is like this the first 3 innings…it makes me want to throw the remote out the window…

First inning…Utley walks on 4 pitches. Howard comes up with a plan…to hack away at everything he sees. First pitch, handcuffs him foul. Next pitch, same spot, same result. Then he grounds out. Ugh. Then Raul…weak groundout to pitcher. OK, well at least this kid is all over the place so maybe we’ll see some runs this game.

Second inning…After Utley throws away a lock double play, when even Kemp was like “F it…I’m dead…I’m not even going to run back to 2nd…oh wait, Utley threw it to the guy in the 4th row down the left field line…let me try to get back.”, Oswalt walks Loney on 4 pitches and then Navarro lucks into a weak grounder to the left side that scores the run.

So then it’s the Phillies turn…Ruiz Walk…Brown Walk…Valdez…single. Bases Loaded no outs. Oswalt is a sure out. Then here comes Shaner…another weak grounder to the @$#%$ pitcher and they force out at the plate. Then the Gods of baseball decide that they will give the Phillies a break and the kid walks Polanco on 4 pitches. Here comes Utley to make up for his brutal error…ball 1…woo hoo maybe the kid will walk ano…..WHAT??? UTLEY SWUNG AT THE 1-0 PITCH???? WTF. You got to be shitting me. Come on Chase.

Third Inning…Oswalt and the defense unravel. 3 more runs…but the kid isn’t throwing it well…there is still hope.

Here comes the Phillies…I don’t know if there is a way to check the fangraphs for an at bat, but I’d like to know where the pitches that Howard waved at. What a weak, feeble at bat for the man. Then Raul and Ruiz both get singles and here comes the Kid…the Domo-nator…and his at bat was victimized by 2 horrible strike calls by the home plate ump, then works it to 2-2 count and then Rubby(WTF kind of name is Rubby??) throw his best pitch of the game, a nasty change-up or curve that Brown swung right over. Then of course Valdez hit a single, but Ruiz is slow and Oswalt sucks at the plate, so Samuel has to send the runner and hope for a bad throw but Ethier is right on and there’s another run that bites the dust.

After that, the Phillies basically quit, with Rubby?? putting down the next 6 men in order and the game was over. Yeah, Utley hit a triple to make it 4-2, but then the kid Stutes gets a little rocked for the first time and the game is over.

Sick. If they have any pride, they score big tonight. Carlton is on the mound, so the pitching should be fine. But if they aren’t as pissed as I am about such a terrible performance last night, then they aren’t men…they are gutless mice.

And the long HardballTalk nightmare finally comes to an end, if only for a day. No more “Still the Best Record in Baseball” from Phior and Phriends. Yessiree, that distinction is now bestowed on the high flyin’ Redbirds. Holy Batcrap, has Fernando Salas ever been great. Once again he saved not only our bacon but an attempt to hand the game to the woeful ‘Stros. Again Sir Berkman’s early bomb, reminded the few faithful Houstons what it was like back in the days. I still like Lance a Lot. And Mr. Pujols capped off the offense with a majestic arc of his own, reminiscent of his launch vs. Brad “every other year” Lidge. The “Riot” again rescued his hitting streak, now reaching a commendable 20 games, but his boot on a sure DP roller made this one a contest. He had been better lately, but this error certainly came at an inopportune time. 2nd base is calling his name as he is a shortstop in name only, but his contributions to our run-scoring cannot be overlooked. Struggling to win vs the likes of the Flubs and Astronauts, certainly isn’t much to crow about, but who would have been crazy enough to predict that on the morning of June 8th, 2011 the St. Louis Cardinals(the Kid Version) would sitting on top of the Baseball World? It’s good to be the King, if only for a day.

Don’t bother me today, I’ve got lots of errands to run. My primary care physician (or, to mimic cur, “fysician”) can look at the phantom pains in my right knee.
Will be scouring Baseball Reference to determine if the Yanks hitters have a low RSVP, or it may be the pitchers who have a high SPQR.
Then a trip to the dark side of town to see Harry Lebowski and his father Big to obtain more of those magic horse pills that Posada and Jeter took last night. Double up on some so we can get to 3000 quick.
Noesi had a good game of relief, he’ll be giving a dissertation on how to pitch 6 innings in one game.
