Not only that, but two plays earlier he saved what would have been an inside-the-park home run from Jose Reyes. Anybody slower than Gomez wouldn’t have gotten to the rolling ball fast enough to stop Reyes from taking all four bases.

All that can be taught. Make it worth his while; you get hits you play. You don’t; you ride the pine. He’ll come around. Frankly working his bunting skills would improve his eye for pitches no end. A month spent bunting would improve his regular swing ball contact no end IMO.

The Twins tried that approach with him, his two biggest drawbacks are he isn’t selective at the plate and he tries to mash every pitch into outer space like he was taking down an asteroid himself.

Gomez can be taught to hit, at least to the point where his average is above 0.260. One bunt hit a week should do it. With his speed he’d be able to drag a bunt for a hit easy. Then you’d be able to get that glove in the line up pretty regular. What skills with the leather man. Like wow.

It’s unfortunate he can’t hit a lick, because that glove belongs in a lineup on an everyday basis. Luckily, the Brewers have a little more punch in the lineup and can afford to run him out there far more frequently than the Twins ever could.
