pisano... Man I hope that you are right! Like or hate the Yankees, the Yankees have always been viewed as being the Gold Standard in baseball, and goofball Nick Swisher simply doesn't fit and belongs taking his clowning around act to someplace like the Cubs where he'd fit right in.

I know if I were Ca$hman I sure as hell wouldn't pick up his $10M club option at the end of this season, that's for sure. Corner outfielders are easy to find and to your point, if the Yankees let Swisher and Jones walk at the end of the season, another dependable veteran could be brought in at half or less than Swisher would cost as insurance should one of the kids get off to a rough start.

I hate the way that the Red Sox are allowed to throw money around too, but there's a huge difference between them and the Yankees.

Theo has been actually pretty shrewd with the timing of several key moves that he's made over time. For example, knowing when to let Man-Ram go even though he knew there would be fan backlash. His timing is just slightly off, but he'll be able to let Cameron and slacker JD Drew walk at the end of the season without having to eat any big money too.

Of course he's made some very expensive mistakes too. Dice-K was a horrible waste of money and he WAY over paid for John "I am a" Lackey. What amazes me is that for as smart as people think that Theo is he doesn't apparently pay enough attention to the stats behind the stats when it comes to evaluating players.

Everyone who follows the Angels out here knew that Lackey at best was no more than a #3 starter (but one who could at least eat innings). The numbers Lackey put up that boosted his value in free agency had more to do with starting a lot of his games in pitchers parks including Angel Stadium, Seattle's Safeco Field and whatever they're now calling that obsolete stadium up in Oakland.

In addition, at the time Lackey was an Angel he pitched a lot of his games against the then all weak lineups in the AL West, not against the likes of the Yankees, Rays and Jays.

Theo made a shrewd move though when he landed Crawford (despite his slow start thusfar), and trading for Adrian Gonzales.

The Yankees on the other hand basically just handed CC a blank check out of desperation and gave ridiculous foolish money to A-Roid and Jeter, both who are on the wrong side of 35. Theo won't make those kind of moves which makes me think that he'll make only a token pass at bringing Big Papi back in free agency this year.

Over his career he is 6-7 against them with a 3.63 ERA (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=sabatc.01&year=Career&t=p). From '08-'10 they batted .196 against him. But who cares what past Sox teams did, they have a bunch of new faces. The current players have a collective BA of .261 against him, which is buoyed by Cameron and Youk. He owns Jacboy, Salty blows and Craw struggles against lefties. I guess time will tell.

Freddie's already running out of gas and we haven't even hit the All Star Break yet! Last year Freddie ran out of gas in August folks. He's a likable battler, but the simple fact is the old gray mare just ain't what she used to be!

Just how much trouble is the Yankees pitching staff in? When the mighty Yankees have to resort to pulling bust Jeffrey Marquez off the waiver wire and immediately suit him up to play, it's not exactly a sign that Hank and Hal (who are thought to be cheap), is giving Ca$hman any money with which to play and work with. JOMO.

Wow... Jason Maxwell has 16 homers? That dude's a five category gem, if he can ever reach his full potential (which he seems to be doing). That was a trade that greatly favored the Yankees, in terms of ceilings. But yet again, the Yankees have a sexual fetish/disorder of falling in love and playing older players who drag down the team. It doesn't surprise me that true talent is rotting away in Triple A.

Very true. There's absolutely no reason for Gardner's non-attempt at scoring in that position. He wasn't even looking at the catcher. It was a clear F-up. The Yankees need to send an internal memo reminding their hitters that if Derek Jeter is at the plate with a runner on first, every single chance to move the runners up and prevent a double play must be acted upon immediately. I like the guy, but holy hell, he kills Yankee rallies by GIDPs very often. It doesn't help that he can't lift the ball out of the infield anymore.

AJ had pitched fairly well over his last 3 starts so he was due for one of these. I think Carsten Charles will stop the bleeding this evening though. The only 2 Sox that hit him well are Youk and Cameron and I'm not particularly worried about Cameron. I'd expect to see 7 innings and 7 K's from the big lefty tonight. Salty, Ellsbury and Crawford will all go down swinging.

Jeter may have grounded into another DP (which is nearly inevitable these days with a man on first), but the reason he had that opportunity is because Gardner was sleeping at third base when a pitch went to the backstop. He should have scored easily, which would have put the tying runs in scoring position. Biggest (non-)play of the game in my opinion.

"leaving in AJ until the Yankees dug themselves a hole they couldn’t dig back out of"

In Girardi's defense, he couldn't really yank AJ -- he needed him to eat innings. Joba just went on the DL, the bullpen was in disarray, etc. and so on. If he'd had anyone TO call, I'm sure he would have.

Of course, counting on AJ to eat anything but a bowl of suck once the weather gets hot is pretty foolish in the first place, but...here we all are.

Brilliant managing by Girardi, leaving in AJ until the Yankees dug themselves a hole they couldn't dig back out of. Also, why the hell is Jorge Vazquez wasting away in the minors? It's unreal. Girardi just absolutely sucks against the Red Sox. And lost in the Jeter 3,000 hit story is another rally he killed by grounding into a double play.
