This is straight from the standard corporate PR playbook. There is a story out today about how the NAACP, a major gay rights organization and a number of politically left leaning groups are bizarrely advocating in favor of AT&T’s merger with T Mobile, which requires government approval. Turns out all of these groups are recent recipients of massive “charitable” donations from AT&T, in some cases over $1 million.

This is how corporate America thinks the game should be played. And there’s no shortage of “nonprofit” groups who are more than happy to sell their souls for cash. Harsh, but true.

It’s clearly how Frank does business. Underhanded and sneakily.

To quote the article:

“Hunter said McCourt did not make any promise to donate to the churches, nor did he offer any personal benefit to the ministers.”

Which, as all of us here in Southern California know, means he’s promised to donate to the churches (when the Fox deal gets done and his divorce is complete) and he will provide something to the ministers (when the Fox deal gets done and his divorce is complete).

To keep your life simple just cut and paste this headline and add a number every time:

This reminds me of ‘The Wire’….which isn’t a good thing b/c that show dealt entirely with corruption and bribes (direct or indirect).

I fail to see how this is a civil rights issue. This strikes as shallow on many levels for both McCourt (nothing new) and the group of ministers (kinda surprising to me). It seems obvious that the reason they would defend McCourt is b/c of some sort of financial incentive (i.e. bribe).
