<i>"But this team payed $50 mil for the right to NEGOTIATE with him before they signed him to a ridiculous contract. I just dont have any sympathy for a team with a $161 mil payroll that repeatedly overpays for guys and <b>than complains about overpaying them."</b></i>

When has any Red Sox official complained about overpaying a guy? Seriously, name one time this has happened.

royalsfaninfargo, and purdueman... You're both right, but when the fans that in both cases have to deal with the frustration of these two,(I'm thinking purdueman means Igawa) I kinda of feel for them. In the Yankees case Igawa was so bad he couldn't make the bigs. Like purdueman said if they had done their homework maybe these two overrated players would still be in Japan. I also agree with purdueman that baseball here is an altogether different game than in Japan.

I don't feel a bit sorry for the Red Sox or the Yankees, who also got badly burned on a Japanese pitcher. It's called, do your homework and scouting!

The White Sox were the first team to completely pull all their scouts out of Japan and a few more teams have since followed suit. The track record in MLB of Japanese pitchers is abysmal; they simply can't hold up to the much longer MLB season and having to pitch on a more frequent basis.

In addition, Japanese training techniques of pitchers is a 180 degrees opposite of what all MLB teams preach (long toss in between starts being the biggest complaint among pitching coaches).

Outside of Gozilla (Matsui), and Ichiru, Japanese position players have for the most part not been significant additions to their teams either. Bottom line? Japanese players are simply a bad investment... it's a lot like investing in junk bonds... maybe 1 out of 100 pay off, another 3 or 4 out of a 100 break even and the rest you lose your shirt on!

Hey, I'm no Sox fan, but this guy stuck it in their a#s. I feel sorry for the Sox and their fans, some of the most loyal and dedicated fans in sports. I posted earlier that when he comes back (if he does) he should let the national league watch his act, it's only right that they feel the pain.
