Drabek, barring injury, could well pitch a no hitter one day. His arm is very good but he panics easily, lacks a cutter or slider that he can rely on for a strike and seems to never throw the curve for a strike. His fastball is very good but he’s forced to rely on it for a strike too often and he never seems able to locate it on the corners. Some time in the minors to polish up a slider, change speeds, locate better, and keep his cool is exactly what he needs.

All that being said, this is the Red Sox that every one expected at the start of the season. Dominant. Clicking on all cylinders and pitching really well. As its gone along and the weather has turned warmer the Sox have all rounded into form, including Crawford, who REALLY needed the chance to acclimatize to playing in a more northern climate before the start of the season. He sucked in the cold April weather.

The only bright spot for me today was seeing that b-a-r-l-e-y over the wall homer by Bautista. At least someone on the team is leading in something.

Plenty of young starters have struggled to break into the AL East. It’s probably the hardest transition to make in baseball. Look at Clay Buchholz for a more recent example.

He may be spewing inappropriate nonsense, but as long as he isn’t being profane then you shouldn’t start deleting posts. One of the things that makes this site great is the dialogue, even the stupid wind ups. If one starts cherry picking comments or deleting posts pretty soon you end up with Florio’s site where criticisms are shunned. Hell, even over on probasketballtalk they don’t delete comments. In a fairly long winded post I called Kurt Helin a Miami Heat fanboy and hack. He even responded. I like open and frank opinion sharing as long as it isn’t profane.

Well, I’m not sure how much developing the Blue Jays did with Drabek. He is primarily a product of the Philadelphia farm system. So, I’m not sure why this character is bashing the Blue Jays farm system on this one. Saw him pitch in the minors a couple times. Great stuff. A little bit wild at times. I think he will be a front of the rotation guy, just not yet.

Vernon Wells has had a pretty good career (not his fault Ricciardi was a moron). I wouldn’t exactly call him a Blue Jays “highly rated prospect who fell flat on his face.”

And if we’re talking Toronto farm system products on other teams, there’s Marcum. And some guy named Halladay or something. And probably a bunch of guys I can’t think of right now.

What an insane comment that deserves all the thumbs down comments that it has received. Drabek is just 23 and has been having control problems. He will be back just as Roy Halladay had to go back to the minors for seasoning.

Drabek can still be good. Too early to call him a bust. I think if the Jays had a veteran staff in place, he would not have been in the majors yet this season.

Trading away Marcum (a trade I was not too happy about) has left the Jays with some very inexperienced arms. However you have to remember that even Roy Halladay needed to go back to A-Ball before returning to the majors and dominating. Long term I am still confident about Drabek.
