I shudder every time a left-handed opposing batter steps to the on-deck circle in the late innings, because Tony’s got a nasty “lefty specialist” addiction that doesn’t waver even though Miller and Tallet specialize strictly in putting left-handed hitters on base in creative ways. Meanwhile, Ryan Franklin is the very definition of a benchwarmer, and Mitchell Boggs, who only a few weeks ago was the heir apparent to the Cards’ closer job, isn’t trusted with anything beyond clean-up duty. What’s going on? Have La Russa and his Stubbormetrics finally gone completely around the bend?

Perhaps, but we aren’t going to give anything up for him. With Valdez shining in Memphis, his call up may be eminent. In a few days Romero will have passed his 10 days in limbo, and most teams will wait and see if the Phils keep him or let him go. I expect Ludwick to be wearing the Pinkish/Red unis soon.

If it means dumping Miller? Sure, why not? It might only be a lateral move, but I’m ready to be disappointed in the performance of someone else, I’m tired of being disappointed in Miller as soon as I hear his name called.
