UPDATE: Elvis Andrus day-to-day with sprained left wrist

UPDATE: Good news for the Rangers. According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Rangers’ doctors have determined that Andrus’ wrist has shown improvement since last night. He’s currently listed as day-to-day, though he is expected to be out until at least Tuesday.

Elvis Andrus slid head first into second base on a stolen base in the bottom of the fourth inning. In doing so, his left arm got caught beneath his body. He was replaced by Andres Blanco at shortstop to begin the top of the fifth inning and was later diagnosed with a left wrist sprain.

Andrus told Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com that preliminary X-rays on the wrist came back negative. Both Andrus and Rangers manager Ron Washington are optimistic that the injury will not require a trip to the disabled list, but we’ll know more after he’s examined by team physician Keith Meister later today.

Andrus, 22, is batting .278/.323/.347 with three homers and 30 RBI over 319 plate appearances this season. He currently ranks second in the American League with 22 stolen bases in 25 attempts.
