Come on, Craig. Are your blogger fingers so dainty that it hurts to just think about it? Anyhow, Longoria explained why he tried it the other day. He said that as a matter of fact, it does hurt to hit the ball this way which in turn, forces him to be more selective with the pitches he is receiving. He was expanding his strike zone too much and swinging at too much junk. There’s nothing like a little bit of negative reinforcement to improve your pitch selection.

Have you seen Jose Bautista with his after an intentional pass? He takes FOREVER to get them off his hands. They must be like surgeon’s gloves they are so tight. I’m not sure how his hands don’t go numb in those things.

I kind of admire Posada for never wearing gloves. The Long Glorious One’s move sure seems to have paid off. In an ironical twist a bare handed attempt by a fan nearly spoiled a homer for him. Replay (there’s a shocker) got it right hand he was allowed to trot bare handed, pants ripped open at the butt, round the bases. So he was bare handed and nearly bare-assed, too.

On the contrary, I advocate decreasing the use of batting gloves because it speeds up the game. I’m tired of seeing players step out of the box to adjust them after every pitch. It’s even worse when they do it after not swinging.
