If the Mets can swing five or six good prospects and K-Rod salary relief, maybe they can justify not trading Reyes, letting him play his heart out till the end. Then they could make a good faith offer (though I think Reyes will get offers that are both beyond the Mets’ means and reason for a player with an injury history), and live with the two draft picks you get for losing a class A free agent.

The big question is who wins out at the trade deadline: the savvy Sandy Alderson or the Wilpon curse.
