Nah.
1. I know it’s easy to say that the Mets would trade with the Phillies and no big deal from your home in glory land that outshines the sun…but pretend it’s the middle of 1999, Phils are “alive” but not “in it”, and the Mets are kicking ass. You’re telling me you’d be ok trading your best hitter to the Mets? I’m not saying it wouldn’t be smart, just saying those kind of things are rarely done.
2. The Phillies don’t have a package of minor leaguers that anyone would be interested in.
3. The exact stat isn’t the point. The point is, an above average player doesn’t come up in trade talk these days without a million and one Phils fans going on about how awesome it’d be to nab him, just like Yankees (yes, and Red Sox) fans have done for a long time, without considering whether a deal is feasible or even possible.

Well, dumbass, there are only 3 guys on the Phillies with an OPS+ above 100, let alone 120 so before you come trolling in, check your facts. Also, if the Phillies were to put together a package of minor leaguers the Mutts were interested in, there is no doubt in my mind they would trade Beltran, who they won’t be resigning anyway, to the Phillies no matter whether they are their “biggest rival” or not. Besides, the biggest rival of the Mutts is the Wilpons, not the Phillies..

Phillies fans are officially the Yankees fans of the NL now. Start holding your breath for the Mets to trade their best hitter this year to a division rival with the best record in baseball…NOW!
In all seriousness, there’s nothing wrong with coveting good players for your team. But nowadays, it seems that when trade-market rumors come up, the first comments are no longer “He’d look good in pinstripes”, but rather “The Phils could use him; our current [position]-er/man/stop only has a 120 OPS+.” And I just want to make sure you guys realize, that the odds of a struggling Mets team trading this guy to their biggest rival are insanely small, let alone when the Mets are above .500.

The last time Beltran was a rent-a-player he went to Houston and helped knock the Braves out of the playoffs and start a 5 year playoff drought for them. Hopefully we make it back to back appearances this year.

Beltran would be perfect hitting 5th for the Phillies, but unfortunately, unless they give up the farm, they aren’t going to get the Mutts to pay enough of his salary to stay under the luxury tax.

I’d take him over Ibanez or Francisco in left for the rest of this year. But based on his injury history, ONLY the rest of the year unless he hits .350 and hits 40 homers in the 2nd half/playoffs.
