Uhm, I’m not so sure about this. Yes, baseball is great, and paulbrownsrevenge just made an ass of himself with that post, but I really think football players would perform better in a cross sport challenge.

Most baseball players would get destroyed in football (the strength and size difference is ridiculous) and many position players in football played baseball in high school/college as well.

I know this goes both ways, with many multi sport players choosing baseball over football, but I have to believe football players would be more comfortable playing baseball than baseball players would be playing football.

Still, both sports are great in their own way and deserve to be the top two sports in the nation. If we were honest about it, each league would probably get annihilated playing the other sport. No need for comparison, really.

As an A’s fan, I tend to agree with you overall on that statement. While good pitching often nullifies good hitting, these teams aren’t hitting for squat outside of the division either. There’s a reason that the difference between first place and last place is only seven games (the least in any division in the MLB). Outside of fans of the 4 teams in the division, can anyone regularly even name a player on these teams not named Josh Hamilton?

While it is very tough to be as poor offensively (aside from Texas), it is quite the anomaly. Good thing these teams at least have the pitching to compete with each other…

Your right, they’ve blown so few saves, but I wouldn’t put my money on those guys in a postseason series. During the 9th inning the ESPN cameras flashed to Lidge in the dugout and mentioned how he’ll be up and throwing soon… Being a Phillies fan, I didn’t know if should be looking forward to it or not.

Take the same number of baseball players and football players and play each other in both sports. See who plays the other sport better..Baseball is so much better and more difficult than the other sports that it defies description.

Is it a slow and boring game or are you just the typical dumbed-down person of today’s society that rips on movies where there are not 50 explosions and god forbid there may be some dialogue that you have to follow? You need instant gratification and that’s fine for people like you. Some people can follow a game that has a more cerebral approach though. To each his own. Let me know how the next episode of Jersey Shore turns out.

Does anyone else think Baseball is a weak sport. Any sport where you play almost 200 games isn’t really a sport, it’s an activity. Baseball is America’s past time, and Football is the present. How long until Baseball becomes obsolete like horse racing and boxing? Anytime I try to watch a Baseball game, i see a bunch of overpaid “athletes” standing around, adjusting their jocks, wristbands, gloves and hat. Any sport wear the coach wears a uniform isn’t a real sport. All of this while the other team stands around in a dugout doing nothing. It’s a slow boring game for boring people. Stadiums are empty, and it’s time to move on. Put Pete Rose in the HOF and close the doors.

4 AL west teams in the top 9. Is it because they have the best pitching staffs, or the weakest hitting division in baseball. I mean seriously, have the Mariners or Athletics had an extra base hit yet this season. Adjust that thing for schedule, and the Rays are vying for best in the AL.

68 – Phillies
64 – Mariners
63 – Giants
62 – Braves, Angels
61 – Athletics, Rangers

Five are getting them less than half of the time

36 – Cubs

49 – Rockies

It’s true, but along with being 21st in ERA, they’re third in wins, 10th in WHIP and 12th in strikeout rate. So, for what I was actually trying to project, they’d rank 10th-12th right now.
