The Dbacks are willing to add payroll at the deadline

This is not terribly surprising inasmuch as the Dbacks are doing well in a winnable division and have some holes that could be filled. But it seems so rare these days for the non-usual suspects to say that, yeah, they’re willing to raise payroll.

But that’s what Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall told Fox’s Jon Paul Morosi, saying “If we’re in it, we’ll do whatever it takes to support you.”

The bullpen is the biggest need, it seems, and Morosi suggests that Twins closer Matt Capps could be a potential fit.  I assume because he has money on the Giants to win the NL West.

These damn Diamondbacks, throwing all this money around to sign superstars like Matt Capps and buy a division! Their fans must suck!

      Seems like a reasonable comment….

    Who’s selling this season?

    Gee, I have no idea.

Here’s what the Rattlers really need: (1) a grossly overpaid Mendoza-hugging catcher with occasional power; (2) a washed up, slightly carbuncled avuncular utility player who moonlights as a third baseman when not dispensing from his usual place on the bench the accumulated wisdom of his many years as a marginal player to the next generation of marginal players; (3) a grossly overpaid veteran pitcher who alternately finds and loses it in approximately three to four game streams; (4) a hard throwing lefthanded reliever who still has posters of Kevin Greg and Mitch Williams tacked to the ceiling of his bedroom and has a wonderful penchant for giving up a dinger on the very first pitch of each appearance, apparently after telepathically imbuing the on-deck hitter with the message “fastball down the middle” as he wanders in from the boolpen.

DBacks is such an unfortunate nickname…

Hey, Craig…why no HBT Daily this week? I miss Tiffany.

    And you.

    Well…mostly Tiffany. Not gonna lie.

We had some technical difficulties with the camera in my basement. We think it got zapped by a power surge (seriously). Been messing with it all week. We think it may be fixed though, so it’s possible we’ll back with HBT Daily tomorrow. At least that’s the hope.

Translation: Tiffany escaped the basement, and HBT has been on hiatus while they track her down.

“DBacks is such an unfortunate nickname…”

I thought it was D-Bags? Seriously- are their “fans” even showing up? AZ is one of the worst frontrunning sports states in country- just like with the football Cardinals.

I don’t think Phoenix is a great sports town (there are only about three of those in the nation), but what a stupid comment. I don’t think the Packers would draw if their owner didn’t care at all about winning and their home games were in a stadium that’s horrible (Sun Devil Stadium) and half of those games featured beautiful 110+ degree temperatures. Since the elder Bidwell opened up the bank a bit and got the hell out of the way and the Cardinals opened a reasonable facility in which to play, the Cardinals have drawn above average for teams with identical records. So, if you sat out on the heated concrete slabs of Sun Devil Stadium game after game to watch years of horrendously constructed Cardinals teams you have room to talk, otherwise stfu.

In the summertime, many Rattler fans are caught out in the sun on the way to the stadium and crisped down to their wire armatures before they can get back in the shade. If they build air conditioned walkways from all over the basin to the stadium, like the ones in downtown Minneapolis, the attendance would be much better.

I am a Rams fan and have suffered through horrible team after horrible team. I didn’t just show up when they won the Superbowl and I didn’t jump ship when they were 1-15. Thank you very much.

“…Morosi suggests that Twins closer Matt Capps could be a potential fit.”

    Yes please!

And yes, I’m a Twins fan.

Traded from Minnesota to Phoenix. Some say the world will end in fire. Some say ice…..

Fortunately, for those in Phoenix, they will have beach-side property along Arizona Bay.

      • Old Gator - Jun 29, 2011 at 4:03 PM

My great-to-the-nth-squared-power grandlizard bought beachside property on the Tethys Sea. If I could find the strata that holds is deed I might own Phoenix now. I’ve been back and forth across the irridium layer ten times and hit nothing by wetback fossils.

You need to search extra deep in those craters.
