True – new Cubs owners were terrified that they would eventually have to fire one of the team’s greatest players and muddy his name because they knew this team is several years from winning. Same reason PK Wrigley never hired Ernie Banks to manage. Odd that it seems like they led Ryno on for 4 years in the minors, though.

Actually I think they passed on Ryno because they didn’t want him to take over a bad team. They wanted him to come in and be successful. I don’t think it would happen with the team as currently put together.

The cubs passed on ryno because they would’ve had to pay much more than quade’s sorry butt.

Much as I respect Sandberg, it seems to me like he’s not up to the task of managing at the major league level. I’m not sure why, Pete Rose wasn’t the sharpest stick in the bunch and he managed OK, but I think Ryno is being shut out because he lacks some of the tools needed to manage in the bigs. If the Cubs didn’t want him, good luck elsewhere.

No way. He is Cholly heir apparent now and has the Iron Pigs playing some good baseball. The Cubs had their chance.
