That’s a ridiculous statement dirtyharry- it’s perfectly reasonable to believe that a 35 yr old man could speed up his bat speed when he couldn’t catch up to a fastball a year and a half ago.

Do you remember Chein-Ming Wang? He was doing something basic to any field game, .. running. He broke his foot and his career went out the window.

Gonzalez might be a good 1B but he’s not a good OFer. Anybody remember Youkilis playing the OF, .. I do and it wasn’t pretty. Ortiz is a DH only because he’s not very good defensively. The RS can’t afford either of these guys if the expect to contend.

You are correct that a MLB player should be able to play out of position for a few games it is also true that the RS should be able to beat the Astros without risking losing major components of their team too. If this was the WS I’d agree but this is too risky. Especially, for a guy that you just signed to a long term BIG MONEY deal to not play the OF.
