Paperlions you got to remember a closers role is to save games. If a closer comes in a save situation and ends up winning the game it means that he blew the save and cost the other pitcher the victory. So wilson wont be happy that he got the victory, but he will be thankful that giants as a team got the victory.

John Grabow had a similar outing for the Cubs against these self-same Giants June 29. He let the Giants score the go-ahead run in top of 13th inning and looked like he’d be the losing pitcher. Then Geovany Soto hit a 3-run homer off (guess who?) Brian Wilson in bottom of 13th to get the win for Grabow.

Yeah, because so many players don’t care if they win or lose….it is very common for non-competitive people to be ML quality baseball players.

I would much rather see players that can control and focus their emotions like adults rather than unleash them on inanimate objects like a cranky teen during puberty.

At least he cares. I would rather see one of my players occasionaly do something like this than shrug around after the game and try and deflect the blame or play the cliche game with the press. If he wants to do better he will be motivated to do better and frustrated when he fails. It is most concerning if he would be apathetic.

I hear you. “Giants Bail Out Wilson” this morning’s headline in the SJ Mercury News …..No mention of Bumgarner, anywhere! Disappointing. It’s not always about Wilson. In fact it’s starting to be less and less about Wilson. In the prior 3 games the Giants starting pitchers allowed only two runs over 21 1/3 innings and NO WINS. That’s what these stories should be about. Disappointing? You bet!

water cooler? WATER COOLER? That’s not a freakin’ water cooler, it’s an oversized picnic jug. A water cooler has a 5 gallon jug of water sitting on top of it that explodes when you hit it with a bat. Which is why they don’t have water coolers in dugouts anymore.

Sure much of Wilson’s antics are an act. But the guy wants to win first and foremost. It seems too many guys these days have the attitude that if they lose it’s no big deal.

I want guys on teams that I root for that get mad when they fail. Blowing off a little steam in the dugout may be a little bit childish but I don’t have a problem with it if it is an isolated incident. Just don’t punch things with your pitching hand and don’t turn into Carlos Zambrano.

Technically, didn’t he just suck, but not blow the save…the Giants still won without giving up the lead.

Dustin Pedroia felt the need to act like a giant jerk last night as well. After a called strike (that appeared to be a strike according to Fx), he argued with the call for a bit while standing in the box, then he singled on the next pitch and on his way to 1B he turned and yelled back at the ump. Not only was Pedroia being an asshole and wrong, but the ump had actually (according to Fx) called a strike a ball earlier in the count, helping Pedroia out.
