Poor old John Farrell. He saw his team play well and nearly sweep the mighty Phillies (but for the crapstastick bullpen, it would have happened). To top it all off, he gets his haw dislocated by that leviathan John Rauch. I don’t know about any “big fine leveled against Rauch by the Blue Jays kangaroo court “, not being an in-the-know sports journalist with experience in kangaroo law, but I do know that flipping out like that when you are the size Rauch is can get perfectly innocent people hurt. He probably should pay some sort of fine. Either that or be Farrell’s food chewer for then next 2 weeks.

Well, Pete Rose got suspended for 30 days in 1988 for "bumping" umpire Dave Pallone; by then, Rose was a non-playing manager. I'd guess a player making violent contact with an umpire would get at least that much (as opposed to the current lesser suspensions for making any contact with the ump during an argument). There's a (possibly apocryphal) story about "Pepper" Martin grabbing an umpire by the throat during his minor-league managing days. Called on the carpet by "Happy" Chandler, the then-Commissioner asked "Pepper", "What were you thinking?" Martin allegedly replied, "Well, Commissioner, I was thinking I'd choke the son-of-a-(female canine) to death!"

Once, just once, a manager should let a player kill an umpire, especially a bench jockey or someone about to be DFA'd anyway. I'm not particularly bloodthirsty, but I need a topic for my thesis on sports business and I would be fascinated by the organizational upheaval it would create.

So Farrell not only made everything look worse for his pitcher by tearing his shirt off to stop him from yelling at the ump closer than he was already (“killing him” per the media), but he also managed to get elbowed hard enough to knock his jaw out? Not a good night for Farrell.
