SmackSaw… I think you’re being a little bit harsh on Garland (but I didn’t thumbs down you either). With Garland it was I think merely a matter of old Ned Coletti playing the game of “The Price is Right”.

Garland has always been a fly ball pitcher who puts a lot of guys on base, but like Ted Lily he’s smart enough to realize that his chances of success go up significantly if he pitches in Petco Park or Dodgers Stadium, where fly balls go to die on the warning track during night games.

As for having a pre-existing shoulder injury? I’m sure what old Ned mostly looked at was the fact that Garland throughout his career has been an “innings eater”, always around 200 IP/year and rarely on the DL.

It’s just another case of Dodgers bad luck more than anything, as pitchers like Garland and Oswalt pitch as long and hard as they can, then are pretty much forced into hanging ‘em up. Unfortunately for Jon, looks like his number has now been called to do so.

The only reason the Dodgers signed Garland (for $5 million!) was because no one else wanted him because his shoulder issue is well known. Ned Coletti is an idiot but he only follows orders. McCourt wanted as many bodies as he could, signed as cheaply as possible to appear as if he was interested in the Dodgers. He isn’t.

What McCourt has done to the Dodgers is a travesty. He has committed larceny upon Dodgers, their fans and Major League Baseball. Jon Garland is proof of it.

Garland, who spent the first six years of his career with the White Sox, was being talked about by Hawk Harrelson yesterday and when Stoney told him this news, Hawk immediately quipped: “He Gone!!!”
