Report: The Yankees have a “strong interest” in Sean Burnett

Jul 7, 2011, 4:00 PM EDT

I’m not gonna say that the trade market is going to be a bit dry this month, but when the Sean Burnett is being coveted by a contender, well, that kinda tells ya something.

Whether he really is being coveted is debatable, of course. You know how these thing go at this time of year. Craig Heist of WTOP in Washington reports, however, that the Ynakees have a “strong interest” in Burnett. He of the 3-5 record and 5.59 ERA in 39 games.  Of course, he has been better in the past.

Mostly this is interesting, however, in that if a deal went down there would be two Burnetts in New York, and then they can go all “Highlander” on one another.

    There can be only one.

There should have been only one.

The Yankees already have 2 Burnetts. Good AJ and Bad AJ. And you never know which one you’re going get.

Or, I could go all “Highlander” on both of them, my only consolation being when the Red Sox start Millwood.

Be careful, or the Yanks may take it one step too far and get “Ramirez!”

Who in Gods name is Sean Burnett ?

Burnett really is a lot better than his ERA suggests. IMO he is on the right track to being a good lefty closer.

Again. I’m no expert and I’m probaby wrong.

Was at the 7/4 Nats-Cubs game and ran into a Yankees scout who was trying to be incognito. Supporting evidence for this post … I couldn’t figure out who on either team the Yankees may have been looking at; the starters that day were Zimmermann (untouchable) and Coleman (replaceable).

The Nats have almost nothing in the way of lefty relievers in the organization right now; we’d be hard pressed to move Burnett despite his struggles this year.

      They have JC Romero

Hopefully the scout is better at spotting talent than Christopher Lambert was at acting.
