I truly get it, some guys are actually hurt, and some guys are going to hurt the eyes of the fans. Is Castro an all star yet? Probably not. He has 18 errors playing a position where you have to be almost flawless. Catchers hitting 230 and pitchers with 500 records ( Lincecum). The all star game is about being the best and showcasing why you are the best and deserving. Now days the players make so much money there are no incentives anymore. They could care Less and the fans suffer big time by watching players who SHOULD be taking the three days off. The game is no longer fun to watch and neither are some of the players. The old timers game has more excitement.

After watching almost 60 of these "games' they still make no sense to me and less now that it is a popularity contest that the big markets easily win. A popular player hits once or pitches a 1/3 of an inning and if you blink or go for a drink, you lose nothing. Players opt out and what do they get a pat on the back, a trophy perhaps some money and nothing is changed. The game really serves no purpose but to make baseball a few bucks.
It might make a bit more sense if the players, coaches, managers and sports writers voted for the players as they really know who are the best players, but selecting a catcher hitting .230?

It's crazy that Tommy Hanson isn't on the NL squad. 10th in SO, 3rd in WHIP, 5th in ERA, tied for 5th in wins (only 2 behind the leader, teammate Jurrjens), 3rd in SO/9, 4th in Average Game Score, 10th in DIPS, 1st i BAA, 3rd in OBP, 4th in SLG, and 4th in OPS. How Correia got in over him is ridiculous, even if the players did choose him.

"Old-schoolers" like Rivera and Jeets? (Snark!) ;-) Hey, at least Starlin Castro can say he's an All-Star!
This is definitely sad to see. Americas pastime is truly past time. What happened to when being selected for the All Star game was a pride thing, made you stand out amongst your pears, got you a bonus for being selected. Even to be picked as a reserve brought a certain recognition that said, Im an all star. He'll, growing up I remember whist it was like to be able to wear that all star patch and for your peers to look at you differently, sort of with reverence. Aramis Ramirez, skipping the game, skipping an honor to be recognized even though you are playing for a dog$?@& team? Please explain that to me. A lot of these guys would have trouble making a triple a all star team, let alone a pro all star team. I barely recognize any of these guys anymore. It's a shame that the game is treated with such disdain and disrespect. Some of the real old schoolers need to come back and teach these young guns the history of the game.

I know he's having a "down" year (for him -- bunches of players would take .280/.357/.500 with 18 HR and 50 RBI at the break), but doesn't it seem strange to see a National League All-Star team without Albert Pujols on it? I'm not knocking any of the selections per se; it's just odd to see an All-Star team without The Great Albert.

And in that "third" OF spot, I wanna see the Bucco's Andrew McCutchen and his .894 OPS in the starting lineup!
