Could the Giants be a dark horse candidate to acquire Rasmus? They need more offense and a future center fielder (since Torres/Rowand aren't cutting it). And they have 6 viable starters if you count Jonathan Sanchez. Would a package built on Sanchez and last year's #1 pick, CF Gary Brown, get it done?

metalhead - you never actually watched the video of the fight did you? Cueto was surrounded by REDS not Cardinals. Also, Cueto ran around the back of the pack of people to try and get some cheap shots in. Thus he put himself in that position. Furthermore, you didn't see Carpenter who was also pinned against the wall/netting kicking with weapons like a little girl. Cueto is a coward pure and simple. He should have been prosecuted for kicking with metal cleats in a crowd. There is absolutely no defense for his cowardly actions.

HAHAHAHA, I find this scene extremely funny for some reason. First off, this is a third-party host, thus if this host can't handle an edit function, you get another one. That said, wordpress was just rolled out for this blog last fall sometime so a change is highly unlikely. Second, I'm sure Senor Calcaterra is not paying out of pocket for anything related to this blog. The thought though, is hysterical. Craig!
Nick C, kudos on a number of valid comments. But I will quibble some. Greene is an enigma. He has great speed, occasional pop, a strong arm and good range, but he has not been able to put it together and would only be an add on to any deal. Brown is a bit of a late-bloomer, and watching him play was a validation for me. To be honest, I am not sure he should be moved, and definitely not just as a throw-in. His primary problem is that he has Allen Craig in front of him. You are correct that he wasn't a AAA prospect, but neither were Jay, Craig, or Freese and they have blossomed.

Forget Sherrill, we have two similar old lefties in Miller and Tallet, and they throw more strikes. Beachy is indeed an intriguing carrot the Braves can dangle and with Minor et al is expendable, but in order to get an everyday CF with Rasmus' credentials the Bravos must include someone young, awfully good and inexpensive as you indicated. I too doubt that Ventors would be available. St. Louis really isn't in dire straights with their starting staff, and with a Wainwright return on the horizon, bullpen help and a defensive SS may be a more desirable need. Re-signing pending free agents after a partial season in St. Louis is a trait the Cards have mastered, so I doubt if Bell's status would negate a deal and while Bartlett is nothing to brag about he is adequate at SS, and can still run, and their are not alot of other options.

Hey Metalhead, your comments sound an awful bit like a 4th place whine, from a team that you guaranteed wouldn't have to worry about the Cards in 2011. You are looking up at the Pittsburgh Pirates!, and sit 2 games under .500, with a closer, who you championed that is imploding, a starting staff that compares to the worst in baseball, and team searching for a shortstop and left fielder and a bullpen that has logged more innings and is already beginning to show it.

Hey trasmus3, using coach of Little League World Series Championship as credentials to vie against Major League instructors is like arguing the guy who changes oil at Jiffy Lube is entitled to Nobel Prize in Quantum Mechanics. Get a clue. Let's review. Manager Tony LaRussa, 2nd most victories in Major League History. Hitting Coach Mark McGwire 583 HRs, lifetime .982 OPS. St. Louis Cardinals, 2nd most World Series Titles by a franchise. St. Louis Fans and Media, arguably the most supportive, knowledgeable, understanding group in MLB. Versus You, and your Little League and High School trophies.

Plus you are the parent of one of the most talented least polished players in MLB history. This leads me to believe either your son, never listened to a word you said, or your teaching skills are limited. Your son seldom knows which base to throw to, which ball in the outfield he should make an effort to catch, how to get a jump on said ball, how to utilize his speed on the bases, when to bunt, when to coax a walk(not in a crucial 2-out situation), how to hit to the opposite field, the importance of making contact in certain 2 strike counts, and that he is in the best situation he will ever be in, in his baseball playing life.

As you may have noticed the Cardinals have another option in Centerfield by the name of Jon Jay. He does not have your sons' raw ability. He doesn't have his power, speed, size, or swing. But he does have one more HR (7-6) and the same number of steals (5) in about 2/3 the playing time. He also sports a .304/.329/.742 line vs. your son's .246/.329/.742. Defensively, the comparison is even more stark. Jay gets a great jump on the ball, allowing him to play shallower where he gets to bloopers with a combination of skill and will, and he not only knows how many outs there are, but which base his more accurate throws should go to. Incidentally, we are in a pennant race, with 3 other pretty good teams. Potential does not win ballgames. It is becoming clear that the Red Birds chances of winning are better when your son is riding the pine, watching his less gifted counterpart, make diving catches, dashing around the bases and producing timely hits.

Hey Pop, these are the realities. It might be too late for Colby in St. Louis, but when you have his goods, the chances are many. Before it is too late, let him go. Your time is over.

This reminds me a little of Andy VanSlykes situation when he was in STL. Got labeled a malcontent, didn't get along with the manager (Whitey), got shipped out of town and had a pretty good career after that. He won a couple of silver sluggers if i'm not mistaken. Not saying that Colby would wind up the same, but sometimes the change of scenery seems to help.

spud - I know you are a fan of the Cards so you have to know that Greene has zero trade value and Brown is not really a "prospect" despite the AAA production. Beachy is a very good young pitcher. You will NOT get Venters/Beachy together. Venters is entirely too valuable to the Braves. The Braves do have pitchers who can slide into Beachy's slot though. And they do need offense and a CF.

Washington is another possibility but they would have to give up Jordan Zimmerman and that is unlikely. The key to any Rasmus deal is the Cards getting a cost-controlled young pitcher.

spud – I know you are a fan of the Cards so you have to know that Greene has zero trade value and Brown is not really a “prospect” despite the AAA production. Beachy is a very good young pitcher. You will NOT get Venters/Beachy together. Venters is entirely too valuable to the Braves. The Braves do have pitchers who can slide into Beachy’s slot though. And they do need offense and a CF.

Washington is another possibility but they would have to give up Jordan Zimmerman and that is unlikely. The key to any Rasmus deal is the Cards getting a cost-controlled young pitcher. With large payroll commitments in 2012, the Cards will not give up Rasmus for anyone high priced. His cost controlled years will have to be matched in any trade. That is why you won’t see the Cards trade him for something stupid like Bell/Bartlett.

I actually believe Rasmus/Boggs/Brown(Brown is a right-fielder, with above average speed, defense, and arm who is tearing up AAA, .324/.412/1.000 with 14 HRs and 45 RBIs in only 216 ABs) would make a sweet trio for a young developing team like Washington or Atlanta. Tyler Greene might also be available. However, teams are going to have to do better than Beachy/Sherril. More likely Beachy/Ventor at least.

You've got to give to get. Your Bravos need offense, a CF and a bullpen arm to take the stress off Venters/Kimbrel. My Cards need a SP and LOOGY. Bravos would get two cost controlled players to the Cards one. Furthermore, you have Teheren or Minor to plug in. Cards aren't taking Lowe off your hands, Hanson is probably untouchable and Jurrgens/Hudson aren't moving either. Seems Beachy is the chip if you want additional offense. Since this has been floated...who would you rather have? Rasmus or Carlos Quentin. Seems like an easy decision to me.
