Thats probably true. But they decided to bring in k rod and a happy k rod is much better than a pissed off one. This is a win-win because you can always trade either one in the offseason.

Axford is 90% as good as K-Rod, has no baggage and costs about 90% less.

If the guy expects to get $9-10 million a year after this season why wouldn’t the Brewers try to lock him up at a couple more years and cancel out the option? What if they offer 3 years and $33 million? This would eliminate the option problem, and give k-rod the security of a couple extra years. If he is guaranteed 3.5 next year if he doesn’t pitch then this deal would basically be 3 years an 30 million. And for the added security I think k rod would do it.

5 million might not kill the Brewers but it will definitely limit what they can do in the offseason
