the amount of spousal support presumably reflects the parties’ income and assets and the “lifestyle” the parties both enjoyed while married. meaning, he’s paying that much, but he still has a pile of cash. so, there is a possible way to justify that amount — we are just talking about people who have way too much cash for us to even understand. When they were married, this is the kind of cash she had access to on a monthly basis, to pay the bills (yes, the mortgage) and to just piss away.

what’s more infuriating is that this number was likely based on income/assets that were generated not by Frank’s hard work or free-and-clear assets, but by sucking the team dry.

Don’t recall if it was a pre-nup, but you are right; the Dodger’s ownership is a HUGE problem, at least from a baseball team ownership perspective. Craig had a great piece on it a while back, but to sum it up; the Dodgers were not meant to part of the communal property (you probably know all this clyde, bit I’ll sum it regardless in case you don’t). The team was supposed to be Frank’s wholly and completely. However the wrong draft of the agreement was signed due to the bungling of McCourt’s old law firm. Now it’s apparent that Jamie gets half the Dodgers ownership. In a real stroke of a$$ chafe for Frank, his old firm sued him before he could sue them. Not sure what they’re going after him for since they screwed him over but its typical of Frank that it works this way. He put the ‘less’ in ‘hapless’.

I do believe all this agreement signing took place long after Frank & Jamie were married so its not a pre-nup so much as an ownership agreement.

Why would a bankruptcy court presiding over the Dodgers’ bankruptcy have any authority to modify Frank McCourt’s spousal maintenance payments? Unless, of course, he is making those payments from the Dodgers’ coffers rather than his own.

I would guess that quite a lot of spousal support is idiotic, but $600k is absolutely ludicrous.

If they acquired this stuff while married it would not be protected in a pre-nup anyway.

The fact that ANYONE could be awarded 600,000 in spousal support is ridiculous. There is no possible way to justify expenses in that amount, especially if she is not even paying her mortgage!
