The Mets are still Pond Scum. Busch Stadium Trois, was judged to be the MOST difficult stadium to homer in, in the NL for right-hand batters, and it is a symmetrical park so its no phone booth for lefties either. I question the study, but only by degrees. Seems like Citi, Petco, and AT&T would be more difficult, but the gist is that it is a pitcher’s park, and certainly not homer-friendly.

We suck at SBs no doubt. But this isn’t some new revelation; it has been this way for awhile. Pujols usually steals around 15, and Molina contributes a few, but that is about it. Theriot was supposed to deliver some swipes but has lost steps(as in plural), Schumaker has zero chance, and Holliday, Berkman and Freese have no business trying. That only leaves CF, which has 11 between Rasmus and Jay in 16 chances, not a bad percentage, but obviously not Ricky Henderson-like.

Let’s face it, we don’t have the horses.

That team used to drive me nuts back when the Mets and Cards were rivals. No power outside of Jack Clark, all speed and pitching and defense and using that Astroturf and the huge dimensions, and finding ways to beat the Mets.

Funny how, especially since McGwire, the Cards now rely on power and have a park for home runs, and the Mets could turn into a grass version of the 80s Cards. But, ’06 NLCS aside, the rivalry is gone.
