That crying you hear is the pitching staff in Detroit. Seriously, they have one of the worst defensive teams in baseball, and now they swap Inge for Betemit. I suppose they had to do SOMETHING, but this does not seem like it will really help.

As much as I hate watching Wilson Valdez get thrown out by ten steps on a GIDP, he might still be more useful than Inge.

The “handwriting was on the wall” when he proved unable to field his position with authority, as he once did. He was kept around to protect a Jhonny Peralta with limited range at shortstop. But he has become a sieve there as well. After a bad error on Tuesday night, he actually shrugged. Not the kind of gesture that a dude who can’t hit his weight should make. You have been a class act for years, Brandon, but, as you have taken the demotion so readily, you knew it was time too, didn’t you?

Is Brandon Inge the only player to make two errors on one play in World Series history? I would assume so, but there is no real way to look it up.

In case you don’t remember, in 2006, he botched a throw home for error number one, then stood in the baseline and Scott Rolen ran into him, and was awarded home for interference for error #2.

I always loved the way inge played the game. The guy was clutch and I was always worried if he came to the plate against the Yanks in an important spot.

I had no idea he was 34 years old. He looks 24. I am disappointed in this, because he is a great ambassador of the game, and a hero to many kids. I saw a special report on him, and on game days, he visits kids in cancer wards. He lets them write something on his arm, then they get to watch him on TV that night with the message still on his arm. How exciting and uplifting it must be for those kids. In an era of classlessness, most notably by the Mets who wouldnt visit injured vets in the hospital because “it was too gross”, Detroit lost a true humanitarian.

Good luck Brandon Inge, and keep up the good work. No matter what you accompished while you were in uniform, what you do out of it is far more necessary and impressive.
