Am I missing something? I hope this was just a stupid joke. Heilman hasn’t started a game since 2005. What could possibly make you think he would start a playoff game, let alone a regular season game? Did you forget we have hamels and oswalt?

Well, I was dead ass wrong on this one. The Phillies DFA’d Baez to make room for Lidge. I must say, I am surprised they did so. Glad they did, but surprised none the less. Not because he doesn’t suck, but because they have been reluctant to do so in the past. Also, it frees a spot on the 40 man roster. So that is good too.

The Phillies used to tee off on this guy back when he was a Met. Him coming on board tells me an arm is going to be going bye bye in a trade.

If anyone gets “released” it would be Baez. The other guys have some value and if they go anywhere it’s back down to the minors. Besides Herndon, but he’s just better than Baez is.
Now if you were talking trading? Baez would definitely be the very last to go. Simply because he… Well you know.

So in the post-season how do you think it will go. Halladay, Heilman, Lee, or Lee, Heilman, Halladay, or maybe the Phightens will save their new acquisition for game 3 and hope that he can finish out the 5th game if necessary.

They won’t release Baez for Heilman. Baez will be the last of Herndon, Carpenter, Perez, and himself to go. As I’ve said before, and as odd as it may be, he has a calming effect on the young arms of the bullpen. He can’t pitch but has helped Madson and Bastardo with mechanics as well as translate for the non English speaking members of the staff. They way I see it is that Carpenter is out the door when Lidge is activated. When Oswalt comes back Herndon or Perez will go with Kendrick sliding back into the long relief role. If the trade for an arm the other one goes. By the time Contreas comes back the rosters will be expanded to it will be a dead issue. Baez won’t be on the post season roster but he will be on the roster for the remainder of the regular season. Damn near certain of it.
