Nelson Cruz drives in career-high eight runs in blowout win over Blue Jays

Nelson Cruz

Nelson Cruz busted out of his recent slump in grand fashion last night, driving in a career-high eight runs in a 12-2 rout over the Blue Jays.

Cruz went a perfect 4-for-4 on the night. He had an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning, slugged a three-run homer in the fourth and collected two-run singles in the fifth and sixth innings.

The eight RBI tied him for second place in club history behind Ivan Rodriguez, who knocked in nine on April 13, 1999. Cruz and Ben Zobrist of the Rays are the only players who have driven in eight runs in a game this season.

Cruz entered Friday’s action batting just .179 (7-for-39) with one RBI (on a solo homer) over his last 11 games. Ah, baseball.

OK. I will. Tom Grieve did with Bengie Molina at bat last year, and then it happened! He was A TRIPLE SHORT OF THE CYCLE! But it didn’t happen this time…

The image above is of Adrian Beltre, not Nelson Cruz (at least at the time of this writing).

Cruz isn’t going to have Jo Jo Reyes to beat up on anymore. He has been designated for assignment. There is bi big sigh of relief coming from Blue Jay fans.

Maybe the jays can now bring up that bust Drabek again so we can watch him get beat up somemore. He will make a fine BP pitcher
