Give him the gold watch, cue the highlight reel of his grandslam in 2007 ALCS and give him and his family vacation tickets to the bahamas.

They have to pay his salary either way this season, so if they retire him now, or he rots on the dl and takes roster space what difference does it make? Give the kids a chance.

My big regret is Kalish being hurt. I thought he was the heir apparent in right. Hopefully he is ready next season. With Kalish and Reddick to add to Elsbury and Crawford the outfield is looking set for years.

I would think they could get Beltran fairly cheap prospect wise if tey were williing to eat more of his contract. Belttran is not a good long term fit for the RS becuse of his age and injuries. But, for the rest of this season he’s a good investment. He’s playing for next year and he knows it.

The RS need more pitching, (who doesn’t), but Beltran might well add to an already formidable offense and supply very good defense as well. As a Yankee fan I hope the RS don’t get Beltran. He might be a tad fragile but he has ability both offensive and defensive. Also, he has a record of being able to produce in big moments.

They needed to free up a roster spot to bring back Lester today. Drew has done next to nothing so far this year and its his final year so they come up with a phantom injury and place him on the dl. If Reddick performs they way he has, its a win for the Red Sox and Reddick. They might even give JD early retirement and pick up another bat via the waiver market. If Reddick cools off, then they make a trade for another outfielder, probably not Beltran as they do not want to give up more prospect but would rather use cash.

I really think this is the classic phantom injury since no mention was ever heard of it prior to JD going on the DL.
