Carlos Pena is gonna get traded

Jon Heyman says that Cubs first baseman Carlos Pena “will almost surely be moved” this week.

It’s the same old story with Pena: lots of pop, low average. He could represent an upgrade for a handful of teams and probably won’t cost a ton give that he’s playing on a one-year deal. It’s a weird one-year deal too, in that part of the $10 million he’s making is deferred, which is something you don’t see too often on such a short contract.
My guess: he’s one of those trades that come with no warning on the day of the deadline while I’m trying to write three other posts, it slips through the cracks and then in two months someone says “Pena beat the Cubs with a homer” and I totally forgot that he was ever traded.

hes not really much of an upgrade for you guys, he hits for a worse average than Overbay but with more pop

my mistake, his average is only about 10 points lower (and when youre already hanging around .225 whats the difference right?) so he would definitely be an upgrade. as a Jays fan i cant believe someone actually picked up Overpaid

Tampa, for old times sake? He won’t cost much and they need some offense, even if just to maintain respectability down the stretch.

Kotchmann’s hitting .330 with an .854 OPS. Damon is the most expensive player on the team at DH. I’m afraid his days in TB are behind him.

As a pirates fan thinking of players to go after i never thought of pena. That would be nice, adding some power to the future nl central champs

LOL this guy’s club has been a punching bag since the Clinton administration. Listen to him talk, “future nl central champs” XD

Unfortunately, if Heyman is reporting it its probably not going to happen.

Hope Pirates do NOT get him.. Pena already had his HR burst. Once August hits he tanks it…
