UPDATE: According to Mike Wilner of “The Fan 590″ in Toronto, the Jays announced that Bautista was taken out of the game for precautionary reasons and is listed as day-to-day.

8:36 PM: Scary moment in tonight’s Orioles-Blue Jays game.

According to Arden Zwelling of MLB.com, Jose Bautista was hit in the helmet by fastball thrown by Orioles’ right-hander Jake Arrieta in the bottom of the third inning tonight.

The pitch reportedly hit Bautista square in the left ear flap. He was forced to leave the ballgame, but the good news is that he was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Bautista is batting .329/.466/.680 with a 1.146 OPS this season. He currently leads the majors with 31 home runs, though he hasn’t gone deep since July 9.

Very scary indeed. A concussion is possible. The next batter Adam Lind retaliated the correct way with a home run.

Lind had five HRs in five games against Baltimore this season coming into tonight’s matchup, so it seems unlikely they were trying to bean Bautista just to get to Lind. Now make that 6 HRs in six games.

Glad to see JB wasn’t seriously hurt. Watch him take it out on Simon tomorrow night.

Big deal your team got hammered again 12 to 4 against the O”s and are below .500 again! As you can see all those sandwich picks in the last 10 years have amounted to nothing but a one way ticket home come October!

Hit? More like Drilled!!!! Bautista was pissed off because it’s obvious he did not want to leave the game regardless

the only “pissing” bautista should be doing is in a pee cup!

As in “Jose, what day is it?”

Athletes are not heroes. Helmet designers are.
