One of my favorite fan-fest photos is of Matt Stairs showing rookie Mark Mulder how to work the crowds: pose, smile, say thanks, and move on. The Wonder Hamster had great numbers in Oakland and played a better right field than people thought possible, helped by a strongish arm that fooled the occasional errant baserunner. With his pop, experience and character contending teams should be all over him…he proved this so many times, especially in 2008 against the Dodger’s Jonathon Broxton…not too many power-hitting left-handed bats available for next to nothing….someone should jump on this guy…

I always liked Matt Stairs.

The Royals have this promotion called the “Sonic Slam Inning” where if a Royals hits a Grand Slam, a fan from a drawing wins 25K. (Chosen before the Royals Bat) In 2004 matt Stairs hit that GS and won a fan some good jack.

HTF am I online telling Matt Stairs stories anyway? See Matt Stairs is like that. He might be the Bill Brashke of MLB.

I credit Matt Stairs for essentially ruining Broxton’s career. He has never been the same.
