Don’t worry, Chris. Macondo will always welcome Pat back as a prodigal favorite son, even though his .233 BA might be a little rich for Scrooge McLoria’s blood. This year, the budget-conscious Scrooge seems to have set .200 as the ceiling for inseason scrap heap reclamations, but with all kinds of rumors surrounding .300-hitting bench king Greg Dobbs these days maybe Beinfest and the Chihuahua can talk him into splitting the difference.

And of course, Burrell brings all kinds of Veteran Leadership intangibles.

Yes, on Burrell’s incredible speed. Remember how he looked as if he was in slow motion? The funniest thing was does anyone remember the bench clearing brawl (I want to say in 2008 vs the Braves) and Pat was the first one to the mound? How the he11 does that even happen? The guy selling cracker jacks in section 214 should beat Pat to the mound…And he had to take the elevator!

Biceps, I think it might be a better option off the bench than Gload or Ben actually. Now that I’m done my knee jerk reaction. Although I’d hate to see him go cold off the bench like he was doing in TB.

Bench job in only reason I would accept Burrell back to replace Gload. Everyday right fielder is another matter. They are 2 different areas.

I dont want Burrell back. He is not an upgrade. I want Pence. Or Kemp. I’d not, then nobody. Stick with what they have and let the chips fall where they may. Cain owns the Phillies and he is a righty. Let’s all relax. It’s not like they are going to go 11-0 in the playoffs guys.

Of course I remember Pat’s lack of speed. But, he doesn’t have a major hip problem like Gload and can at least run the bases stationary. You bring Pat in for his power off the bench ala Matt Stairs. That’s all. At least most of the time, you would not have to bring in a pinch runner for Pat. Every time Gload hits a single, which he also can only hit because of his hip problem, you have to pinch run for the guy, always. He can’t run at all.

All I want Pat to do is come off the bench and be a power threat.

Never mind. Shabby reporting by Comcast Sportsnet in the Bay Area. Pretty irresponsible to release a story like this without checking sources throughly, if you ask me.

Why not? Gload, because of his hip injury which requires season ending surgery, cannot even generate gap power. And he can’t even run well. What good is he, other than an occasional nickel and dime hit off the bench? They have nothing to lose taking a chance on Burrell providing some pop off the bench. I doubt it will happen, though.

Gload, who is a real good pinch hitter, but can barely walk: I would drop him for a power pinch hitter off the bench in the late innings. Gload wastes (2) bench players every time he gets on base because he always needs a pinch hitter. I have never seen anything like that in all my years of watching baseball. The Phils say they need more power. Well, if you can’t consumate a trade, get this guy back.

What are you people smoking anyway? Sorry, Phills fans specifically. John Mayberry is better than Burrell. He’s a much more versatile player who can play all 3 OF positions plus 1st base. Brown is better. Giants get Beltran and you want the Phillies to pick up their castoff? Really? Call it a trade season by picking up Pat Burrell? ooohhhkay……. Hamels vs. Cain just like in the playoffs. Did you not see the ineptitude of the offense against good pitching tonight? Phillies need to get a RH Bat. A real good one (not that it would have mattered against Cain tonight) That is all.

What the hell! Bring him back and give him a shot in a Phils uniform if they don’t make a trade, coming off the bench in a Matt Stairs type role. Hell, I’d even put him in right field right now over Dom Brown (lol!). He can do no worse defensively.

.233/.342/.419, this year and in San Fran, is actually pretty damned good, enough for a 113 wRC+. Lots of contenders could use him. If you’ve got the choice of trading for Cuddyer and his contract or just picking up Burrell basically for free, I think you’ve got to pick up Burrell.
