but they aren’t going to get the right price for Felix. He’s on a pretty reasonable contract, and no one is going to offer up what he’s worth, so why do it?
This was expected to be a year that we wouldn’t go anywhere, just a year to evaluate the youngsters and get them some time in, so this latest nonsense doesn’t change anything, really.

the best part is the M’s say Felix is “untouchable”. Really? On this pathetic team “everyone” should be available for the right price. But thats how the M’s front office works and thats why they can forget the postseason for many years to come. Keep handing infield singles hitters like ichiro 20MIL a year and see where that gets ya….nowhere fast

It’s really true. Whatever window they had a few years back is well and truly closed at this point. And it’s rather alarming that the team doesn’t seem to see the problem. The offense scored the fewest runs in the history of the DH-having teams last year, and they’re projected to be about three runs better this year. Forget the statistical arguments here, anyone with eyes can see that this team simply isn’t going to work. They’re going to find themselves in the situation the Astros are in right now, where their major league roster and their minor league system are thin. Rebuilding is hard, but simply building from scratch is an absolute nightmare.

Maybe people would pay more attention to the West Coast if any of the big market teams out there could actually get their act together. The Mariners haven’t been to the playoffs since they won 147 games or whatever it was. Why should anyone care? No one cared about the Phillies on a national level five years ago.

I guess I don’t see the point of hanging on to Felix when the Crew of the Minnow can trade him for a solid core of young ballplayers and prospects. With a bereft farm system, virtually no offense and a “future” at least several years of draft picks away (to being with, and that assuming the picks pan out at all), they idea that Felix can be “built around” seems facetious. I understand how bitter it would be to lose him, but let’s face it – this team is going absolutely nowhere for the foreseeable future if they don’t try to capitalize on him now when he’s at the peak of his value. And who really thinks he’ll stick around for more of the same when he becomes eligible to steal a skiff and paddle off to a goldmine and a contender?

Problem is that we can not win 0-0. Even if Felix is perfect through nine, this team can’t hit so it just goes to extras till the Yanks score off the bullpen.

I could be wrong. I hope that I am wrong. But I doubt it.

I remember that streak like I remember my knee surgery. Painful and enduring. Strictly as a fan, it was horrible, but little did we know it would get worse. Owner Edward Bennett Williams died during that season (1988), which was worse in and of itself, but the team subsequently ended up in Angelos’ hands, under whose guidance the team has become a perpetual loser.

The only redeeming feature of the 1988 start were the broadcasting teams, featuring Brooks Robinson on local TV, Jim Palmer on cable, and Jon Miller on radio.
