It's not so much that 7 of the starting 9 spent time on the DL, but that most of those starters have been on the shelf for at least two months - Mauer, Nishioka, Morneau, Kubel, and Span have all sat that long. Delmon Young spent at least a month on the DL, if memory serves me, as has Thome (who isn't really an everyday player to begin with, what with his back problems).

Why would you assume that Gardy will eventually start Plouffe over Tolbert? Gardy loves Tolbert and Tolbert-type players and always has. And he hates Plouffe's defense. I expect a lot of Tolbert, hitting second of course.

So only Cuddyer and Valencia are the last two starting 9 not to go on the DL. What are the odds of all 9 from an opening day lineup to spend time on the DL.

I sense some sarcasm there, but actually he really will be missed on this road stretch the Twins are on. Casilla has been a spark at the top of that lineup, especially with the recent surges of guys like Mauer and Cuddyer and their ability to drive him in lately. Not to mention, he is one of the more exciting defensive infielders to watch in the league - he can make some spectacular plays at 2nd.
