The big concern with Holland is his consistency. He’s 10-4 on the season with 4 shutouts. If that’s all the consistency that can be expected of him, lock him up long term now. What in the hell do people want? If he gives you 4 or 5 quality starts for every blowup, I’ll take as many of those as I can find…

Petitte or Jack Morris is a no brainer. No pitcher would rather pitch in the 90′s and 2000′s than the 80′s. Similiar ERA’s= Petitte better pitcher. Still not a HOFer, Maddux, Clemens, Glavine, Johnson, Smoltze, Pedro, ….Petitte. No way!!!

Ari, I’m fine with neither getting in. Given that Morris has half the electorate behind him, however, I kind of feel it’s worth mentioning that Pettitte was the vastly superior pitcher.

So, Pettitte had fourteen fewer wins and forty-eight fewer losses. He also had a slightly lower ERA, despite pitching in a much more offensively-oriented era – thus, his ERA+ is 117 to Morris’ 105. Both fWAR and rWAR agree Pettitte was worth about ten more wins over the course of his career. How, again, is Morris more deserving?

Pettitte won 240 games, lost 138 and had an ERA of 3.88. Jack Morris won 254 games, lost 186 and had a 3.90 ERA. As I said, if Jack Morris is not a Hall of Famer then Andy Pettitte is not a Hall of Famer.

I’m pretty sure Pettite and his near-4.00 career ERA will not be in the Hall of Fame.

I think “more shutouts” might be the only argument towards Jack Morris having a better HOF case than Andy Pettitte.

I guess that this comparison hurts Pettitte’s HOF chances. Jack Morris had 28 shutouts and still can’t make the HOF.
