Kind of misleading…
Buster Olney says ‘before the trade deadline’. Article here says ‘this summer’.
My guess is that the offers (or just offer, anyone besides Pitt?) have been lacking (as noted what B’more got for D.Lee), so Hendry will wait until August. He’ll clear waivers. And hope that someone else decides they need a left handed bat.

Hendry is negotiating his buyout.

“Give me a golden parachute or I’ll sign the entire team to 9 year extensions. Soriano will be playing left field with a walker and Pena will be the first major league player to strike out every plate appearance”.

Cub fans may not be the brightest bunch (they keep buying tickets year after year) but there is not one Cub fan that will think ‘thank goodness we have Pena and don’t have to waste any money on Prince or Pujols’.

That makes all of them smarter than Hendry.

The Cubs figure if they can’t get Pujols this winter then Pena is the second best 1b in the league. Because Pena is the guy to break a century of futility.

My thinking is they’re gonna pretend they really like Pena and re-sign him just so they don’t feel pressured from the fans into going after Fielder or Pujols.
