Pirates “steamed” Derrek Lee is “taking his time getting here”

Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review just posted an interesting note on Twitter saying: “Privately, folks in Pirates clubhouse are steamed Derrek Lee is taking his time getting here.”

Of course, it couldn’t have been all that private if a newspaper reporter knows about it.

Biertempfel notes that Hunter Pence took a late-night flight across the country to be in the Phillies’ lineup as soon as possible, whereas Lee only has to travel from New York (where the Orioles are playing the Yankees) to Philadelphia (where the Pirates are playing the Phillies).

And since Lee hasn’t arrived yet, the Pirates are giving Lyle Overbay what could be his final start at first base this afternoon.

Knowing what New York traffic is like, he could still be stuck in a cab somewhere.

….or still trying to hail a cab :-0

We’re not exactly talking coast to coast low A travelling here. How about a limo, or better yet, a helicopter?

There’s already been another report Lee spoke to Clint Hurdle and said family issues would delay his joining the Pirates, who have a 1:35pm game today. He should be in the lineup tomorrow against the Cubs.

Yeah, that’s a player you want with you as soon as humanly possible.

It was near midnight last night when the news became official. So he couldn’t have known about it much before then. Sure he could have busted his ass to get there for today’s game, but they are facing a righty anyway. “Steamed” seems a little over the top to me.

Well, in his defense, he’s gotta negotiate the New Jersey highways. So he’s stopping every 500 f@#king yards to pay a toll, and he’s probably stuck in the express lane and can’t find the goddamn exit!

    ….sorry. I hate driving through that godforsake’n state…

Strange, as I’d be hotfooting it away from that organization and out of that city (Baltimore, not NY) as fast as I possibly could.

Well, they’re lucky they kept Overbay in today, despite his 3 K’s. He DID hit a 2 run homer. Too bad Rauuuuuuuul had something different to say.

He probably got stuck driving in a box because some reason you are nt allowed to turn left in new jersey.

And it smell … just saying …..
