It smells like bad faith to me. ANderson and PTNL is an over pay for harden given his injury risk. Boston should know this going in, they are not fans, they are working baseball professionals who had a chance to see Harden’s medicals over the winter.

Bedard is equally a good pitcher with a crappy medical history. to me, saying harden bad bedard good is showing that you don’t really care about the medicals as much as, the bedard deal is better.

Cutting out of the Harden deal with 12 hours left on the deadline, after signing off “but for medical” leaving the A’s unable to work on another deal, is suspect to me.

You are right maybe its not actionable, but it would make me pause to work with theo.

He didn’t say that at all. Why is it so hard to believe that the Sox worked out a framework for the deal, then saw his medicals and reconsidered? They got further information, didn’t like what they saw, and backed out. (Or, actually, they lowered their offer, and the As backed out.)

Might be true some would say that, but right now I am not certain the Yankees problems are first and foremost in the Rotation. In any case wouldn’t be a great acquistion because the odds are about 59/50 that he would be on the DLby the time we play the Sox any-hoo. Right now I have to concur though, I do not see a second round in the playoffs for the Yankees
this year.

SO you are saying there is a break in Harden’s arm? Yeah, we know, he has been broken for 10 years.

WHy did the SOx negotiate and enter a deal just to say no at the last minute?
You are right, it probably won’t get anywhere because baseball is corrupt, but still it looks fishy to me when a team says Harden is too injured, but bedard is a-ok

It would be a bad move if they needed Bedard to be healthy. Or if they gave up something of consequence for him. Neither of those things are true. It’s a good high-upside gamble that costs them little, nothing more, nothing less.

I think this guy would fall apart in NY. Last thing the Yankees want is another Ed Whitson, etc. Once upon a time this guy would have made some sense, not that the Yankees have ever shyed away from guys with some baggage, but there just wasn’t enough of an upside imo.

The Sox took X-Rays and MRI’s of Harden’s arm and did not like what they saw. Note that just about all of Harden’s injuries and time on the DL in his career have been because of that arm. A grievance won’t go anywhere, in fact, Oakland probably knows exactly what they Sox saw in those images of his arm.

I am calling BS. This is a better deal for the Red Sox than the Harden deal. But bedard is not a better bet as If I am the A’s I am filing a grievance.

Funniest part of all of this , Yankees fans can deny it now , but if they acquired this guy it would be , ” well he has a great track record against the Red Sox , they have alot of lefties , he will be a good pickup , especially considering we didn’t give up any high end prospects .” And so on , it gets old , don’t be upset that the Yankees picked up no one to bolster their rotation , Yankees will win the wild card and lose to the Rangers regardless .

If the Sox are desperate to add a starter it’s not because the Harden deal fell through, it’s because of the back problems of Clay Bucholz. He could be out anywhere from the next month – or for the year.

Not really a good move by the Red Sox at all. Not many innings pitched by Erik in the last few years, surgeries and the DL are mostly what he has seen. Most baseball people feel his better days are way behind him. I think the Sox are desperate to add someone especially after the Rich Harden deal fell through.

Saw Trayvon Robinson play a number of games in last AFL -always looked outstanding on both sides of the ball.

Rumor there was that he was related to both Jackie and Maury – if so those are notable blood lines.
